I am a qualified counsellor with over 5 years of practice, holding a Masters degree with distinction in Psychodynamic counselling from Essex University in the U.K. Prior to this, I gained my Post Graduate Cert in Person Centered Counselling from the University of East Anglia and am happy to work in these and other modalities. I am qualified to work with adults, children and adolescents and am registered and accredited with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, registration number 385502 . I work in private practice via in-person consultation as well as remotely via video, voice call and messaging. I have experience in helping clients with a wide range of presenting issues. Those that I regularly work with are: Anxiety, Burnout, Low Self-esteem, Depression, Relationship difficulties, Trauma, Loneliness, Loss and grief, Childhood & adolescent issues.
In my practice I use psychodynamic thinking, the study of interacting motives and emotions, which has it’s origins in psychoanalysis. Central to the psychodynamic way of thinking is the idea that we are guided in our behaviours, actions, feelings, choices and ways of relating to others by factors of which we are not consciously aware. From very early in our lives, long before we can think in words or remember our thoughts, we are being influenced by what happens to us and by the emotional atmosphere around us. These experiences are in the unconscious and yet influence how we relate to ourselves and others in our everyday.
I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It can be a difficult decision to try counselling and it takes courage to start. I want to assure you that, although it can feel like a risk, finding a place of deeper understanding which can lead to a happier and more fulfilling life is a very rewarding experience. I am here to guide, support & empower you in that journey.

Ellen Penny-Brookes is a qualified counsellor with over five years of practice. She holds a Master’s degree with distinction in Psychodynamic Counselling from Essex University in the U.K., and previously completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling at the University of East Anglia. Ellen is registered and accredited with the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists, registration number 385502.
She is qualified to work with adults, children and adolescents and operates a private practice offering both in-person consultations and remote sessions by video, voice call and messaging. Ellen has worked with a wide range of presenting issues and regularly supports people dealing with anxiety, burnout, low self-esteem, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, loneliness, loss and grief, and childhood and adolescent concerns.
Ellen draws on psychodynamic thinking, a framework that originated in psychoanalysis and focuses on the interacting motives and emotions that influence behaviour. Central to this approach is the idea that much of what guides our feelings, choices and relationships is shaped by experiences that are not consciously accessible, often from very early in life. These unconscious influences can affect how people relate to themselves and others in daily life.
She approaches each person with respect, sensitivity and compassion, adapting conversation and the therapeutic plan to fit individual needs. Ellen acknowledges that seeking counselling can feel like a significant step and aims to guide, support and empower people as they work toward greater understanding and a more fulfilling life.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges or managing life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
A major benefit is flexibility – clients can choose the way of connecting that suits them best, whether by video call, phone session, live chat or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it simpler to fit therapy into different schedules and lifestyles.
Therapists offering online sessions are licensed professionals, and if someone decides they would prefer a different therapeutic fit they can switch to another therapist at any time.
