Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Hello, my name is Lizzie and I am based in East Yorkshire, United Kingdom. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, as well as being a certified Online and Telephone Counsellor. I have over 6 years’ experience working with a wide range of clients experiencing problems including anxiety, depression, major life transitions, loss and bereavement, low self esteem and relationship issues. I have also helped clients to overcome enduring problems caused by trauma, abuse and addiction.
After suffering with severe mental health problems for many years I finally sought help through counselling. My life, and my beliefs about myself, changed to such an extent that I gained the confidence to return to University as a mature student; I trained as a counsellor so that I could help to alleviate the suffering of others experiencing mental health problems.
I am an integrative counsellor which means that I am able to use ideas and techniques from various models of therapy including humanistic, cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamic therapy. Collaboratively, we can formulate a treatment plan which is tailored to, and responsive to, your individual needs and unique circumstances. I am deeply person-centred in my core which means that my approach values the quality of the therapeutic relationship we co-create as being key to developing positive change. This philosophy also deems that I will offer conditions and attitudes which I believe are conducive to bringing about positive personal change for you. I will offer you non-judgemental acceptance, warmth, respect, understanding, openness and honesty.
Similar to the way a plant needs warmth, light, rain and nutrients to grow and flourish, I believe that people can grow towards their potential to be their ‘true self’ and to live a happy and fulfilling life when they are provided with appropriate conditions. This process of growth, which may cause discomfort and distress at times, is unique to each individual but may involve breaking free from outdated and unhelpful beliefs about self, learning to better cope with, or accepting and letting go of that which is beyond your control and responsibility. Growing in this way will also help you to develop life skills and re-connect with the inherent qualities and strengths that enable you to enjoy life more fully and deal more effectively with life’s challenges.
I know that I will do my very best to help you. I look forward to meeting and working with you.
*Please note that I currently have session availability on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings.

Elizabeth Holtby is a counsellor based in East Yorkshire, United Kingdom. She is a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and is a certified Online and Telephone Counsellor. With 7 years of experience, she has worked with people facing anxiety, depression, major life transitions, loss and bereavement, low self-esteem, relationship problems, enduring effects of trauma and abuse, and addiction.
After experiencing severe mental health problems for many years, Elizabeth sought help through counselling. That experience transformed her outlook and gave her the confidence to return to university as a mature student, where she trained as a counsellor so she could support others navigating similar struggles.
She practises as an integrative counsellor, drawing on ideas and techniques from humanistic approaches, cognitive behavioural therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. Working collaboratively, she aims to formulate treatment plans that are tailored to each person’s circumstances and needs, adapting methods as those needs evolve.

Elizabeth likens personal development to a plant’s need for light, warmth and nourishment: given suitable conditions people can grow toward their true selves and a more fulfilling life. That growth can feel uncomfortable at times and often involves challenging outdated beliefs, developing coping strategies, or learning to accept and let go of what cannot be controlled. Over time this work supports practical life skills and a reconnection with the strengths that make daily life more manageable and enjoyable.
Elizabeth is committed to doing her best to help those she works with and looks forward to meeting new clients. Please note she currently has session availability on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings.
Many people ask whether online therapy really makes a difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life changes, research and clinical experience indicate that online therapy can be comparable to traditional in-person work.
One of the main advantages is flexibility – clients can choose the communication method that fits their life best, including video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That flexibility often makes it easier to attend sessions consistently and to fit therapy around work, family, and other commitments.
Therapy delivered remotely is provided by licensed professionals and follows established approaches to treatment. If a client feels the need for a different therapeutic fit, it is possible to switch therapists at any time.
Overall, online therapy offers a practical and effective way to access support for many common mental health and relationship concerns, while providing options that can suit different preferences and lifestyles.
