Eliana Downing

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

I was raised in Peru. I attended Brigham Young University and graduated with my Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Social Work. I married while in school and raised six children. I started work at a state social services agency, working for children and families. I attended the University of Utah and earned my Master Degree in Social Work.
I have worked as a therapist, most recently in Private Practice, in a Hospital setting and In a Social Services Agency.
I like to start working with clients from where they are, at the time. I have been able to help clients adapt helpful ways to deal with personal relationships, with parenting challenges. Also, have assisted clients who are dealing with depression, anxiety, grief added to the challenges of daily life. I have had the privilege of helping clients at their most vulnerable times in their lives, we all need help at times. I have assisted people in dealing with depression and anxiety when the source is not clear and obvious.
I believe that mental and emotional health is crucially important if we are going to have full participation in life. I believe this process involves the use of many different components, for best results. So, we need to make sure that there are not medical reasons for the issues we are going to be working on. We look into what we have learned about ourselves and about others. We look into the ways we respond to the changing world around us and consider other possible ways to better that connection. We learn new skills, to deal with the world around us. First, by looking at the world around us from a different perspective; Second, by learning to look at ourselves without judgement; Thirdly by examining the motivations behind our words and actions.
With pure intention, we can gain enormous insight , which will be the foundation of further understanding of ourselves and the world around us, in our constant effort to reach a meaningful empowered life.

About

Eliana Downing was raised in Peru and pursued higher education at Brigham Young University, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology and social work. She married while in school and later raised six children, beginning a life shaped by both family responsibilities and a commitment to serving others.

Her professional path began at a state social services agency working with children and families. She went on to earn a Master of Social Work from the University of Utah and has served as a therapist in private practice, within a hospital setting, and in social services. She is a licensed clinical social worker in both Utah and Nevada and has three years of clinical experience.

Eliana meets clients where they are and focuses on practical ways to manage relationships and parenting challenges. She has supported people coping with depression, anxiety, grief, and the ordinary stresses that life brings, including situations where the source of distress is not obvious.

Her approach emphasizes a broad view of mental and emotional health. Before beginning therapeutic work, she considers potential medical contributors to a person’s difficulties. She then explores what individuals have learned about themselves and others, examines habitual responses to a changing world, and considers alternative ways to improve connection. Clients learn new skills by first shifting perspective, then practicing nonjudgmental self-observation, and finally examining the motivations behind words and actions.

Eliana believes that intentional, honest reflection produces deep insight, which becomes the foundation for greater understanding of oneself and the surrounding world and for moving toward a more meaningful, empowered life.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions for most people. A major benefit is flexibility – clients can connect in the way that feels most comfortable, whether that is through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule and to maintain consistent care. Licensed professionals provide online therapy, and if someone feels a different therapeutic fit would be better, they can switch therapists at any time. For many people, online therapy offers an accessible, effective option for addressing everyday mental health concerns and relationship challenges.
