Dr. Kathleen Ayers

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

I am a clinical psychologist, licensed in California since 2001. I have extensive experience in helping people who have chronic pain and other chronic medical conditions. I use a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. I am also certified in CBT for insomnia. I am interested in the role that nutrition and diet play in health and have certifications in this area (though I am not a dietitian or nutritionist). I enjoy working with individuals and groups.

While many people think of CBT and being matter-of-fact and rooted only in the present, it is much more than that, allowing for exploration of past issues in a safe environment while working on present concerns and issues. It does often include homework, and I do give homework assignments. My many years of experience have taught me that I make a living from others’ misfortunates, accidents, and tragedies. This realization makes me caring and compassionate. All too often, those with chronic pain and chronic medical conditions feel that they are not believed when they report their physical problems and pain levels. My goal is to provide a safe, caring , and accepting environment for people to discuss their concerns.

I have recently developed an interest in also providing help to people who have been traumatized by paranormal experiences.

About

Dr. Kathleen Ayers is a clinical psychologist licensed to practice in California since 2001 and brings 32 years of clinical experience to her work. She has extensive experience helping people who live with chronic pain and other long-term medical conditions, and she blends cognitive-behavioral therapy with acceptance and commitment therapy to support lasting change.

Dr. Ayers is certified in cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia and has pursued additional certifications related to nutrition and diet – though she is not a dietitian or nutritionist. She provides care to both individuals and groups and values practical approaches that address day-to-day functioning.

Although cognitive-behavioral approaches are often associated with present-focused, pragmatic work, Dr. Ayers uses these methods flexibly to allow safe exploration of past issues while addressing current concerns. Her approach commonly includes homework assignments to reinforce progress between sessions.

Her many years of practice have impressed upon her that she makes a living from others’ misfortunes, accidents, and tragedies; that awareness has deepened her compassion and informs the way she listens and responds. Many people with chronic pain or medical conditions feel disbelieved when they report symptoms; Dr. Ayers aims to provide a caring, accepting, and validating environment for those conversations.

In recent work she has also developed an interest in supporting people who have been traumatized by paranormal experiences, adding another area where she offers understanding and help.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether remote therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adjusting to life changes, online therapy has been shown to produce outcomes comparable to traditional in-person treatment.

One major benefit is convenience and flexibility. Clients can choose the mode of contact that best fits their needs – video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging – which makes it easier to maintain consistency and fit support into a busy life.

All therapists are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they prefer a different match. Online formats expand access to qualified therapists while preserving the same therapeutic approaches used in face-to-face care.
