Dr. Tania Muthen

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

I am an experienced Chartered, Consultant Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). I have 16 years experience in providing therapeutic and assessment treatment services and have been trained in several evidence based treatment approaches.

Utilising my range of clinical experience and training, I integrate a range of theoretical approaches to collaboratively develop a treatment plan with my clients. I predominantly use Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Narrative Therapy to support my clients facing a range of mental health difficulties and life challenges.

Alongside private practice, I work as a Consultant Psychologist at a private hospital, delivering in-patient mental health rehabilitation services for the last two years. I previously worked as the Head of Department in a government hospital in South Africa for 13 years. I have worked in a vibrant medical practice, focussing on providing therapy services for newly diagnosed medical conditions and worked in an adult oncology unit for several years.

My areas of expertise include: Depression, Bi-Polar, Stress (Distress) and Anxiety Disorders, Loss and Grief, Adjustment Difficulties, Anger Management, Guilt and Shame, Relationship difficulties, Self-Compassion and Mindfulness, Coping and Rediscovering your Identity Post Separation/Divorce, as well as exploring past trauma and patterns of behaviour.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and are considering therapy, then you have already made a significant first step in your journey of healing. Whether you are facing difficulties with your moods, having interpersonal difficulties or are overcome by feelings of anxiety, therapy can provide you with a safe and contained space to reflect on, and process some of the challenges. Therapy may help you develop insight regarding how you relate to others and yourself, finding different and healthier ways of relating which can lead to life changes and healing.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step for Your Mental Health Journey?

For many common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes – online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions. This makes it a practical option for people seeking support for everyday mental health issues.

One key benefit is flexibility. People can connect with therapists in the format that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which can make it easier to fit therapy into a busy routine or to access help when travel or location would otherwise be a barrier.

All participating therapists are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they prefer a different fit. For many, online therapy offers an accessible way to begin or continue therapeutic work while maintaining a professional therapeutic relationship.
