Rebecca Lazaro

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hi, I’m Rebecca Lazaro, I’m a qualified therapeutic counsellor. My type of therapy is Person-Centred which means I regard you as an individual with unique experiences that have shaped your life, and my role is to help you make sense of your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and experiences and to empower your authentic self.

Sessions with me are about talking to an unbiased professional, someone trained to listen without prejudice, who can provide a safe, confidential space where you are free to express yourself, accepted for who you are, so that you can process your difficult thoughts and feelings about your life situations.

You can bring all the worries on your mind and issues that trouble you, past, present or future, with no judgements or expectations from me. You have control of directing the content and pace of your processing throughout our sessions. Through exploring together, I will focus on feelings, pick up on beliefs, notice themes, and gently challenge you to shine a light on the unlit areas.

In my Person-Centred approach, the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is one based on trust and equality, that is, you and I are two people working together on the same level, there is no power imbalance between us. I work therapeutically beside you, I offer you my empathy and understanding, my total acceptance of your experience to empower you to develop the confidence to find your own way forward. As your therapist, I offer you a therapeutic relationship in which you feel safe and trusting enough to be open and honest about your difficult feelings and emotions.

Some clients come to therapy expecting to be told what to do, given solutions to solve their problems quickly, please feel free to search for a CBT therapist if that’s what you are seeking. Person-Centred Therapy is a longer-term process, in that it takes time to make lasting changes to your personality and behaviours, and while each client goes at their own pace, at least 8 sessions are recommended for the therapeutic process to be effective. By understanding yourself better you can discover your own solutions which work best for you and are more likely to ‘stick’ in the long-run.

Dependent on your issues, I may offer information from other therapy approaches and theories to help you identify your attachment styles and patterns that play out in your relationships, reflect on adverse childhood experiences, process unresolved trauma stored in the body, recognise triggers in the present that are connected to past events, offer insights into how the nervous system regulates and dysregulates our emotions, and generally consider alternative perspectives that might help to increase your self-awareness of unconscious behaviours in order to make conscious choices and changes for your future.

About

Rebecca Lazaro is a qualified therapeutic counsellor who works using a Person-Centred approach. She sees each person as an individual shaped by their unique experiences, and her role is to help clients make sense of their thoughts, feelings, behaviours and life events while supporting their authentic self.

Sessions with Rebecca offer the opportunity to speak with an unbiased professional trained to listen without prejudice, providing a safe, confidential space where clients can express themselves and process difficult emotions. Clients bring worries and issues from the past, present or future and direct the content and pace of the work, while Rebecca listens for feelings, notices beliefs and themes, and gently challenges to illuminate areas that may be difficult to face alone.

The therapeutic relationship she offers is based on trust and equality – two people working together on the same level rather than a power imbalance. She works alongside clients with empathy and acceptance to help them build confidence in finding their own way forward. Rebecca also explains that Person-Centred work is often a longer-term process and recommends a minimum of eight sessions for the process to be effective in creating lasting change. Clients seeking a directive, solution-focused style of therapy may prefer to look for a CBT practitioner instead.

Depending on the issues presented, Rebecca may bring in information and ideas from other therapeutic approaches to help identify attachment patterns, reflect on adverse childhood experiences, process unresolved trauma that can be held in the body, recognise present-day triggers linked to past events, and offer insights into how the nervous system can regulate and dysregulate emotions. These perspectives aim to increase self-awareness of unconscious patterns so clients can make conscious choices for their future.

She has three years of experience providing therapy and a twenty year background supporting adults and young people with a range of mental health needs in clinical and residential settings. Her work history includes supporting people with depression, anxiety, PTSD and complex trauma, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, self-harm and eating disorders. Rebecca has also worked in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres and her most recent role was as an addiction recovery counsellor.

Rebecca is mixed race and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Her formal training includes a BA (Hons) degree in Psychology and a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, together with certificates in Emotion-Focused Therapy for Couples, Trauma-Informed Practice, Family and Relationship Therapy, Addiction and Co-dependence, Emotions and Emotional Disorders, Counselling Studies, Counselling Skills, Online & Telephone Counselling, Unconscious Bias, Safeguarding Adults and UK GDPR. She is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and adheres to their professional standards.

Is Online Therapy the Right Choice for Your Mental Health Journey?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can genuinely help. For a range of common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and life transitions – online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.

A major benefit is flexibility. Clients can connect in the way that suits them best – via video calls, phone conversations, live chat or in-app messaging – which makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.

Therapists offering online work are licensed professionals, and if a client feels the need for a different fit they can switch to another therapist at any time. This combination of accessibility and professional support makes online therapy a practical option for many people seeking help.
