******PLEASE NOTE*******
I do work for BetterHelp part time, and I live in the EST zone. I have a second job and am a Full Time Mom to a toddler. I love being a therapist and working to guide clients towards their goals! However, I am busy. I work for BetterHelp.com Monday through Friday, and the hours vary. If I sign on at 10am, and you write me at 4pm…..you may not hear back until the following day. I do try to reply within 24-48 hours on THOSE days. That’s also BetterHelp.com’s recommendation on response times. Saturday and Sunday I am off but can usually be available to write back if message is marked urgent! I am not continuously online at BetterHelp. I log in, as you do. I am also available for “Live” sessions; real-time typing and live phone sessions, which are a scheduled appointments. I do hope to be able to fit into your schedule. If it doesn’t, I understand and wish you the best on your way to finding a counselor that can meet your needs 🙂

About

Counseling offers opportunities to understand behavior, choices, and recurring patterns, and Jennifer Malkin approaches that work with attention to emotional, intellectual, social, physical, and spiritual needs. She encourages selecting positive behaviors that support growth in a safe, nonjudgmental space.

Jennifer (Jenn) Malkin is a licensed professional counselor who practices from South Carolina and also holds national counselor certification. She earned a master’s degree in Counseling from Western Connecticut State University, an earlier master’s degree in Education, and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, both from Hofstra University. She is also certified in B-R-I-E-F Mediation Specialization Training.

Therapy with Jennifer is collaborative and client-centered. She seeks to understand each person’s perspective, clarify goals, and help identify strengths to support meaningful change. While she commits to providing effective care, Jennifer emphasizes that progress depends on shared effort; she follows treatment plans, discusses progress and obstacles honestly and confidentially, and holds clients accountable when actions do not match stated intentions.

With 20 years of clinical experience, Jennifer has helped numerous individuals and couples increase happiness and harmony. She is trained in a range of therapeutic approaches and finds Choice Theory particularly useful in guiding clients toward practical changes. Together with each client she develops a treatment plan to guide the work and to measure progress over time.

Her areas of focus include stress and anxiety, depression, grief and coping with life changes, trauma and abuse, addictions, relationship and couples issues, family therapy and blended family dynamics, parenting boundaries and reconciling different parenting styles, divorce and custody matters, abusive relationships, anger management, self-esteem and self-defeating belief systems, career and life transitions, goal clarification and goal setting, use of personal strengths, ADHD, compassion fatigue, and LGBT counseling.

Jennifer works part time through an online counseling platform and maintains a second job while parenting a toddler, so her availability can be limited. She operates on Eastern Time and typically signs on Monday through Friday with varying hours. Messages sent later in the day may not receive a reply until the following business day; she generally aims to respond within 24 to 48 hours on days she is active on the platform, which aligns with the platform’s recommended response times. Weekends are usually her time off, though she can often respond if a message is marked urgent. She is not continuously online, logs in as clients do, and offers scheduled live sessions by phone or real-time chat when appointments are arranged. Jennifer will make efforts to accommodate scheduling needs, and if a fit is not possible she wishes clients well in finding a counselor who can meet their needs.

Is Online Therapy the Right Choice for Your Mental Health Journey?

Many people ask whether therapy delivered online can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or coping with life transitions, research indicates that online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person care. A major benefit is the flexibility it offers. You can meet with a therapist using video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging, choosing the method that feels most natural to you.
