About

Life is about being and becoming’ Carl Rogers
Are you facing difficulties or considering a change in your life? Taking the first step to decide that you will make a change is the MOST important.

About Me

Hello I’m Nicola, a qualified counsellor. My journey into this vocation started when I sought counselling due to a close bereavement I suffered. Seeing the benefits of counselling for myself and the growth I went through, made me want to retrain from a teacher to a counsellor.

Since retraining I have helped clients with varying issues and supported them to make positive changes in their lives. Providing a warm and gentle environment to foster a strong therapeutic relationship, we discuss and delve into the client’s experiences.

Working Together

Benefits of working with me is walking through your experiences at your own pace. Exploring the past, present, and future, identifying patterns of behaviour, thoughts, and feelings. Using authenticity and transparency, we will discuss a new way forward that will serve you a greater purpose. Past clients are thankful that I support them to process their emotions and improve upon their self worth and consequently their self esteem.

Together, we can set an achievable goal per 6 session blocks, which would be smaller steps towards your overall goal. We will explore the difficulties you may be facing around your family, relationship, work stress, identity, anxiety, depression or self esteem and bereavement to name a few.

Past clients have seen the benefits of being able to fully explore and develop as people through, seeing a new perspective and having a determination and commitment to therapy. Examples of techniques could be around being able to explore and analyse negative thoughts and discussing where they come from then how to look at them differently. Furthermore, breathing, relaxation exercises, or communication techniques.

Sessions

When first reaching out to me for support we will discuss and arrange an assessment session where we can both find out about each other and what your reason for counselling is at this time as well as your goals for therapy. Then, if we are both in agreement to proceed we can arrange our first session which will be the same time and day of the week. Regular counselling sessions are key to self development and change. Therefore, I see clients weekly but I do offer fortnightly sessions as well.

Every 6 sessions we will review the work and discuss the next goal of therapy. Having honest and open discussions is key to growth and building our relationship together. Therefore, I give the opportunity to discuss how you are finding the sessions and anything that you feel you would like to be different.

My Training in Integrative counselling

I trained in integrative counselling specifically so that I can have the freedom to choose the techniques and models that are best suited to the clients’ requirements. These include psychodynamic, solution based, CBT, person centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. Please see my website for more information.

My experience

My experience over 7 years includes working with a bereavement charity which offered over 12 sessions to clients. A community charity which had clients with a variety of presenting issues including relationship issues, abuse, anxiety and infertility. Furthermore, I have experience of counselling in a GP NHS surgery working within a 6 session time frame. I supported people with depression, insomnia, relationship issues, anxiety, work stress, childhood related issues and domestic violence.

I have also worked within social services supporting families struggling with a range of difficulties.

About

Nicola Demetriou approaches therapy from the belief that personal growth involves both being and becoming, an idea often associated with Carl Rogers. She is a qualified counsellor who turned to this profession after seeking counselling herself following a close bereavement.

Her own experience of the benefits of counselling prompted a career change from teaching to counselling. Since retraining, Nicola has supported people through a range of difficulties, helping them make positive changes in their lives while offering a warm and gentle therapeutic environment.

Nicola creates a space where clients can explore their experiences at a comfortable pace. She works to build a strong therapeutic relationship and to examine patterns in behaviour, thoughts and feelings across the past, present and future. Using authenticity and transparency, she collaborates with clients to identify workable steps forward that serve a greater purpose for them.

Therapy with Nicola is focused and practical. She supports clients to process emotions and to improve self-worth and self-esteem, setting achievable goals in six-session blocks as smaller steps toward longer-term aims. Nicola works with issues including stress, anxiety, relationship and family difficulties, grief and bereavement, depression, trauma and abuse, self-esteem, career concerns, coping with life changes, ADHD and LGBT-related matters. Techniques she may use include exploring and reframing negative thoughts, breathing and relaxation exercises, and communication strategies.

When someone first contacts Nicola, an assessment session is arranged so both parties can discuss the reason for counselling and the client’s goals. If they decide to proceed, regular sessions are scheduled at the same day and time each week, though fortnightly appointments are also available. Every six sessions the work is reviewed and goals are revisited, with open discussion encouraged about how the therapy is progressing. Nicola trained in integrative counselling to allow flexibility in choosing methods such as psychodynamic, solution-focused, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), person-centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. Her seven years of experience include work with a bereavement charity offering over 12-session support, a community charity addressing issues such as relationship difficulties, abuse, anxiety and infertility, counselling within a GP NHS surgery on a six-session framework for conditions including depression and insomnia, and roles within social services supporting families facing a range of challenges.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

For many common concerns – such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life changes – online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person sessions. It is a practical option for people seeking support for these kinds of issues.

One of the main advantages is flexibility. Clients can connect with a therapist in the way that suits them best, choosing from video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This variety makes it easier to fit therapy into busy schedules and to access help from different locations.

All therapists are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they feel a different fit would be better. Online therapy offers a convenient route to consistent care and to working toward meaningful change with a trained therapist.
