Tanya Lorenzi welcomes people who are ready to take steps toward restoring their well-being and resilience. Her own path into counseling began after a sequence of intense personal challenges: following the premature birth of her youngest child, she learned eight months later that she would need a kidney transplant. With two small children and a husband serving in the Navy, she experienced a period of deep depression and found even getting out of bed to be a struggle. With the support of an insightful therapist, she found her way back to hope and recovery.
When it became clear that her transplant would prevent her from pursuing her original dream of becoming a medical doctor, Tanya looked for another way to give back and discovered her calling in counseling. She brings 15 years of professional experience and holds two master’s degrees in counseling. She recently added sex therapy to her qualifications, enabling her to support a wide range of clients across the lifespan. Her clinical specialties include stress, anxiety, relationship concerns, trauma and abuse, coping with life changes, ADHD, LGBT issues, family conflicts, intimacy-related concerns, parenting challenges, anger management, self-esteem, bipolar disorder, and depression.
Tanya uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an action-oriented approach that encourages people to accept their thoughts and feelings instead of fighting or feeling guilty about them. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapy designed to reduce the distress linked to traumatic memories. Tanya is a licensed professional counselor in both South Carolina and Georgia.
Since 2012 she has made Augusta her home after relocating from New York City. Her husband and children supported her through her educational pursuits; now that her two children are grown and living in different places, she shares her household with three large, loving dogs and recently celebrated the arrival of her first granddaughter.
Her therapeutic aim is to help individuals and couples navigate current challenges so they emerge stronger and more connected. Tanya values concluding services with clients who have reclaimed their strength and resilience, and she looks forward to connecting with those ready to take that first step.
Many people wonder whether remote counseling can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the primary benefits is flexibility. Individuals can connect with a therapist in the format that feels most comfortable to them – through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That variety of options makes it easier to fit therapy into busy schedules and everyday life.
Therapists who provide online care are licensed professionals, and if someone decides they would prefer a different provider, they can make that change. For many people facing common mental health or relationship concerns, online therapy offers an accessible and effective path to support.
