Chanel Carlile

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

My name is Chanel Carlile and I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor in the state of Utah. I received my M.Ed. in clinical mental health counseling and B.S. in psychology. My primary focus is on the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, though I have experience working with a wide array of concerns, including trauma, addiction, and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Because I have worked in both private practice and community-based mental health settings, I have treated a variety of issues ranging from panic and OCD to personality and psychotic disorders, and feel this breadth of experience has made me a well-rounded clinician.

I view therapy as an opportunity to assist you in finding practical tools to help decrease your current distress, while also addressing underlying causes/driving forces of such distress. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so I tailor established theories and evidence-based interventions to suit each of my clients’ unique personalities, situations, and values. Although my foundation is based on principles of humanistic and psychodynamic therapy, I also frequently pull from acceptance and commitment, strengths-based, cognitive behavioral, and narrative therapies.

While therapeutic approach does matter, research has shown that the best predictor of therapeutic outcomes is not one particular approach or strategy over another, but the therapeutic relationship itself. When I first set out on my own therapy journey, one of the most frustrating things was finding the “right” therapist—someone I clicked with and felt truly seen and heard by. There is power in connection, and I place a lot of value on forming authentic, caring, and respectful connections with each of my clients. I genuinely care about people and firmly believe that each of us is worthy just because we exist. Nothing you could do or say would change that belief. I want to hear about your whole self—the parts that are good, bad, ugly, scary, shameful, boring, average, exciting…I understand that people are complex and nuanced, and I want to help you see that all of those parts have value.

When I’m not seeing clients, I can generally be found collaging, crossword puzzling, or enjoying a good spoonful of peanut butter. I love collecting rocks, making up songs for my dog, and taking pictures of the sky. I’m an accomplished procrastinator and master self-roaster. I’ll forever hate putting away the laundry, and I frequently stay up way too late. But hey, I’m only human.

About

Chanel Carlile is a licensed clinical mental health counselor practicing in Utah. She earned a Master of Education in clinical mental health counseling and a Bachelor of Science in psychology, and she brings five years of clinical experience to her work.

Her primary clinical focus is on treating anxiety and mood disorders, and she has additional experience addressing trauma, addiction, and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Having worked in both private practice and community-based mental health settings, she has treated a wide range of presentations, from panic and obsessive-compulsive concerns to personality and psychotic disorders. That variety has contributed to her development as a well-rounded clinician.

Chanel approaches therapy as a collaborative process that combines practical tools to reduce current distress with exploration of underlying factors that drive symptoms. She adapts evidence-based strategies to fit each person’s unique personality, situation, and values rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model. Her clinical foundation draws on humanistic and psychodynamic principles, and she also incorporates interventions from acceptance and commitment therapy, strengths-based approaches, cognitive behavioral techniques, and narrative therapy.

She places high value on the therapeutic relationship, viewing a genuine, caring, and respectful connection as central to positive outcomes. Chanel speaks from personal experience about how important it is to find a therapist with whom one feels seen and heard, and she works to create a space where clients know they are worthy simply for existing. She invites clients to bring their whole selves to therapy—the parts that feel good, difficult, shameful, or ordinary—and helps them explore how all those facets hold meaning.

Outside of clinical work, Chanel enjoys collaging, solving crossword puzzles, and savoring a spoonful of peanut butter. She collects rocks, makes up songs for her dog, and likes photographing the sky. She also self-identifies as an accomplished procrastinator and a playful self-roaster who never quite enjoys putting away the laundry and sometimes stays up too late.

She is licensed to practice as a clinical mental health counselor in Utah; her license is recorded as UT LCMHC 9433404-6004.

Is Online Therapy the Right Choice for Your Mental Health Journey?

For many common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care. It offers a practical alternative that can meet the needs of people managing everyday struggles as well as more persistent symptoms.

One of the main benefits is flexibility – clients can connect in the format that suits them best, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This variety makes it easier to fit therapy into busy schedules and to choose the communication style that feels most comfortable.

All participating clinicians are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they are seeking a different match. For many individuals, online therapy provides an accessible, effective way to engage in treatment and to work toward goals with a qualified therapist.
