Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I have been providing counseling for about 25 years. I worked my first 10 years with the elderly population. For the past 15 years I have worked with all age ranges in a variety of areas. I meet my clients where they are, using Client Centered focus, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, including Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (cause & effect) of behaviors. I also use EFIT (Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy) to assist with trauma. My clients are a critical part of my treatment plan development as my desire is to assist in their success – effectively working myself out of their lives. They learn the coping skills rather than dependence on a person to go from one crisis to the next.

Joyce McDowell is a licensed professional counselor in Oklahoma with 30 years of experience supporting people through a wide range of life challenges. Early in her career she worked with elderly populations, and over time she expanded her practice to serve clients across the lifespan.
She addresses concerns such as stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, depression, grief, LGBT concerns, intimacy-related issues, sleeping disorders, parenting challenges, anger management, self-esteem struggles, bipolar disorder, and coping with life changes.
Her approach is client-centered and grounded in evidence-based methods. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, including Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy to explore cause-and-effect patterns in behavior, and she draws on Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) to support work with trauma.
Joyce involves clients as active partners in treatment planning, with the aim of helping them build practical coping skills rather than foster dependence on ongoing therapy. Her goal is to assist clients in achieving lasting progress so they can move forward independently.
Many people ask whether online therapy can truly make a difference. For common concerns like stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adjusting to life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the main advantages is flexibility – clients can connect in the format that best fits their needs and schedules, including video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to maintain continuity of care when life is busy or travel is difficult.
Therapy delivered online is provided by licensed professionals and therapists who use established therapeutic methods. If a particular therapist is not the right fit, clients generally have the option to switch to another provider at any time.
