Toni Kooy is a Colorado-based Licensed Professional Counselor who believes people can grow and thrive with the right support and strategies. She approaches counseling with a warm, non-judgmental stance and helps clients navigate life’s challenges at any stage.
Through attentive listening and collaborative planning, Toni helps people identify the sources of distress and build on existing strengths. She uses both short-term and long-term goals to shape treatment and offers evidence-based approaches such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy to boost self-esteem, improve emotion regulation, strengthen decision making, and support healthier relationships, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help replace unhelpful thinking patterns that get in the way of personal goals and emotional well-being.
She has worked in the substance abuse and mental health field since 2004 and brings 20 years of professional experience. Toni earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling, both from the University of Colorado, and is licensed to practice as a professional counselor in the state of Colorado.
Her clinical background includes work in both rural and urban community mental health settings, supporting clients from childhood through older adulthood—from age 4 up to age 80. She has extensive training in trauma, including training in EMDR, and has helped many people who were experiencing trauma-related symptoms.
Prior to and alongside her counseling career, Toni has held a variety of roles—musician, construction worker, nanny, home-maker, and assembly worker—which contribute to a broad, non-judgmental life perspective and a flexible approach to scheduling. Having already taken the step to seek help, prospective clients bring useful insight and strength; Toni would be honored to support them on their journey toward a more thriving life.
Many people wonder whether remote counseling can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the main benefits is convenience - clients can connect in the way that best fits their life, whether by video call, phone, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to maintain continuity of care around work, family, and other commitments.
All therapists offering these services are licensed professionals, and clients may choose to change therapists if they feel a different fit would be more helpful. For many people, remote therapy provides an effective and adaptable way to access support and work toward their goals.
