Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I am a therapist oriented toward relationship issues, problems with assertiveness, communication barriers, and existential concerns (grief and other life phase changes). I’ve recently become aware how acutely I represent a minority in the profession, a man’s perspective in an industry that now runs 80% women. I am licensed in Kentucky and Indiana. I have worked with clients with a wide range of other concerns, but these days, my strengths go toward those dealing with adjustment-related obstacles in a stressful world, rather than people with histories of severe mood or anxiety problems. I want you to be the best of who you are now, and I prefer to leave the challenges of deep, meaningful personality change or the wounds of trauma to my colleagues.
My counseling style takes a social science approach with you, forming testable hypotheses and solution-focused goals. In that tradition, I combine cognitive-behavioral, humanistic and existential counseling. But I’m also a bit of a knowledge generalist, and won’t hesitate to bring in the lessons of history, literature, philosophy or even linguistics if you find any of those domains helpful. I like to think that as a real professional on the other side of a screen or keyboard, I’m a cut above “AI slop.” In short, I deal in both dignity and hope, shaping my dialog and treatment plan to meet you where you are.
I would be honored to work with you!

Thomas Thornberry is a Kentucky-based therapist with 28 years of professional experience. He holds licenses in both Kentucky and Indiana – Kentucky Licensed Psychological Practitioner (KY LPP 114440) and Indiana Licensed Mental Health Counselor (IN LMHC 39003494A). He practices as an older, non-religious, liberal male therapist.
His clinical focus centers on relationship concerns, difficulties with assertiveness, communication barriers, and existential issues such as grief and other life-phase transitions. He has noted that he represents a minority perspective as a man in a profession that is roughly 80% women.
While he has worked with a wide range of presenting concerns, his current strengths lie in helping people navigate adjustment-related obstacles in a stressful world rather than treating histories of severe mood or anxiety disorders. He prefers to leave long-term personality restructuring and the treatment of trauma wounds to colleagues who specialize in those areas.
Thomas approaches counseling from a social science viewpoint, developing testable hypotheses and pursuing solution-focused goals. He blends cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and existential methods, and as a generalist will draw on relevant lessons from history, literature, philosophy, or linguistics when those fields support therapeutic work. He aims to offer a thoughtful professional presence across phone or screen interactions – a practice grounded in dignity and hope and tailored to meet clients where they are. He would be honored to work with you.
Many people ask whether remote therapy truly helps. For a range of common challenges – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and navigating life changes – online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
A major benefit is flexibility. Clients may choose the format that suits them best, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging, which makes it easier to integrate therapy into a busy life.
Each therapist you work with is a licensed professional, and you can request a different clinician at any time if you feel another fit would serve you better.
