Dr. Suzanne Cormier is a seasoned counseling professional with 26 years of experience helping people navigate life’s challenges. She holds a doctoral degree (PhD) and is licensed to practice professional counseling in South Carolina (license SC LPC 557).
Her work is grounded in a primarily Cognitive Behavioral orientation, yet she adapts an integrative approach to fit each person’s needs and comfort level. Dr. Cormier’s style is interactive and supportive, focused on building on clients’ strengths and resilience to find practical solutions and promote positive change and well-being.
She has a broad background that includes individual counseling, life coaching, university teaching, and student counseling and advising, with extensive training in human development, resilience building, and adjustment to life transitions. In recent practice she has worked extensively with people experiencing anxiety and stress related to personal and social concerns, and she has a particular interest in supporting those new to counseling.
Sessions are offered by phone or video, and she does not use texting as a primary platform. Appointments are scheduled on weekdays at varying times, and she and the client determine a convenient time for the initial session.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Cormier is active in her community and family life. She has two adult children, a husband who works in technology, volunteers at a local art museum, enjoys reading mystery novels, and likes watching funny videos online. She looks forward to working with new clients and helping them move forward with support and guidance.
Many people wonder whether online therapy produces meaningful results. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adapting to life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.
A major benefit is convenience and flexibility - clients can connect in the format that feels most comfortable, whether by video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.
Each participating professional is a licensed practitioner, and clients have the option to change therapists if they seek a different fit. Online therapy can be a practical way to access experienced therapists for many common mental health and life transition concerns.
