Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I provide treatment for a wide range of mental and behavioral health issues, including depression, anxiety, stress management, grief/loss issues, parent/child conflict, and marital issues. I try to ally myself with people to assist them in focusing on and strengthening personal values, spiritual beliefs, and relational skills the person already possesses to address life challenges.
I am a North Dakota native, who for the past 42 years have worked with children, youth, and adults in a number of different settings and professional capacity. I have worked for Juvenile Court; Public Schools, K-12 over the time that I was doing that; Long Term & Therapeutic foster care programs; Youthworks’ a private full spectrum of youth/family services provider in Bismarck and Fargo; and St. Alexius Medical Center mental health programs (Archway & Partial Hospitalization Program) providing child/adult/family outpatient individual and group psychotherapy. I have always collaborated with a wide range of other helping agencies in the community. I will always work with the client to determine the best treatment focus, and method, in an open and collaborative manner. I do utilize eclectic therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, Solution, Strengths Based Focused strategies, as well as other methods. Although much of my work has been with children and adolescents, it has always been in a whole systems, person in environment context that has proven to be consistent with the work that I have done the past 12 years in private practice focused much more on adult individual relational issues.
I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work in ’86 from the University of Denver, and have been a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) since ’03.

Stephen Huebschwerlen provides treatment for a broad array of mental and behavioral health concerns, including depression, anxiety, stress management, grief and loss, parent-child conflict, marital issues, addictions, trauma and abuse, and other relational and life-change challenges. He aims to partner with people to help them clarify and strengthen the personal values, spiritual beliefs, and relational skills they already possess so they can address current difficulties.
A North Dakota native, he has spent the past 42 years working with children, youth, and adults in multiple professional roles and settings. His experience includes positions with Juvenile Court, public K-12 schools, long-term and therapeutic foster care programs, Youthworks (a full-spectrum youth and family services provider in Bismarck and Fargo), and St. Alexius Medical Center mental health programs, including Archway and the Partial Hospitalization Program. In those roles he provided child, adult, and family outpatient care through individual and group psychotherapy and frequently collaborated with a wide range of helping agencies in the community.
Stephen uses an eclectic set of therapeutic methods tailored to each person – common approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused techniques, and strengths-based strategies among others. Much of his earlier work focused on children and adolescents within a whole-systems, person-in-environment framework; during the past 12 years his private practice has emphasized adult individual and relational issues. He works openly and collaboratively with clients to determine the best focus and methods for treatment.
He earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver in 1986 and has been licensed as an independent clinical social worker in North Dakota since 2003.
Many people wonder whether remote counseling can truly help. For common issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and navigating life changes, online therapy has been found to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.
One of the main benefits is flexibility – clients can connect in the format that suits them best, whether by video call, phone conversation, live chat, or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it simpler to weave therapy into a busy schedule.
All practitioners offering these services are licensed professionals, and if the therapeutic match is not ideal a client may choose to switch to a different therapist. For many people, online therapy provides a practical, effective way to address everyday mental health and relationship concerns while fitting treatment into their life.
