Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I became interested in counseling through my own recovery from addiction. Thirty -four years ago, with seven years in my own recovery, I became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I worked in the office of a psychiatrist as a counselor for his patients with addictions. I soon realized that in many cases the addiction and abuse of substances was a symptom of other mental and psychological problems. So in 2000 I went back to school for a Masters in Clinical Psychology.
I have worked in physician’s offices, non profit agencies, day treatment programs, and with the courts in Harris County in diversion programs with offenders. I am experienced in many approaches, cognitive-behavioral, psycho-dynamic, solution focused and trauma recovery. I view my clients as experts about their problem based struggles and simply offer my experience and knowledge in working to find a path to recovery together. I am accepting of different life-style choices and a liberal thinker.
If you are ready to begin your journey, I would be honored to accompany you.

Shirley Currier became drawn to counseling through her own recovery from addiction. Thirty-four years ago, after seven years in recovery, she trained as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and began working in a psychiatrist’s office counseling patients with addictions.
As her experience deepened, she observed that substance use problems often reflected other mental and psychological issues. That realization led her back to school, and in 2000 she earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology. Over the years she has built 19 years of therapy experience across multiple settings, including physician offices, non-profit agencies, day treatment programs, and Harris County court diversion programs for offenders.
Shirley draws on a range of therapeutic methods – cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, solution-focused, and trauma recovery – and approaches each person with the belief that clients are the experts on their own struggles. She brings her clinical knowledge and lived experience to collaborate with clients in finding a path to recovery. Known as a liberal thinker, she is accepting of varied lifestyle choices.
Licensed in Texas as both a professional counselor and a marriage and family therapist, Shirley works with people facing addictions, relationship and family conflicts, trauma and abuse, major life changes, stress and anxiety, grief, intimacy and parenting concerns, anger management, self-esteem and career difficulties, as well as bipolar disorder, depression, and compassion fatigue. If someone is ready to begin their journey, she would be honored to accompany them.
Many people wonder whether remote therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the primary benefits is flexibility. Individuals can connect with their therapist in the format that fits their routine and comfort level – through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – making it easier to maintain regular care.
These services are provided by licensed professionals and therapists, and clients have the option to change therapists if they want a different fit. For many people, online therapy offers an accessible, practical way to address everyday mental health and relational concerns while fitting treatment into a busy life.
