Sharon Brooks-Esprit

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hi there, I’m Sharon, a BACP Accredited Counsellor with over 20yrs experience, post-qualification, including 5 years with charities, 11 years with the NHS in mental health units, prisons, in-patient and community settings and over 3yrs with young people in a further educational setting., where I continue to work as a part-time counsellor. I’m also still seeing NHS patients experiencing mild, moderate or severe depression and/or anxiety, who have either referred themselves directly to the NHS Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) service or who have been referred by their GP. I’m also a qualified Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) trauma therapist and practice this privately but use some of the skills in my general work, when relevant. I’m currently training to be a counselling supervisor, so that I can support qualified therapists and care professionals to be the best that they can be in their roles.

My counselling practice is grounded on the core conditions of Person-Centred Therapy thus creating a calm, non-judgemental, empathic space where the client is at the heart of the process. I am DBS cleared to work with adults and children and my aim is to help clients realise the therapeutic lightbulb moments that enable them to find the best ways to move forward emotionally, therefore helping them through that process without telling them what do to. I also have experience or training in other therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Compassion Focused therapy (CFT), so I’m able to apply techniques to tailor my care and support to client need. I aspire to strengthen each person’s confidence, whilst encouraging their personal growth, and specialise in depression, anxiety, bereavement, family conflicts, betrayal and loss, and have personal experience in all these areas, which I feel provides a deeper level of understanding.
My personal style is a non-judgemental one of openness with a genuine desire to support people to move forward in their lives whilst creating a relaxed, sometimes fun, atmosphere.

My therapeutic achievements include:
• Diploma in Supervision (current)
• EMDR Qualification
• BACP Accreditation
• Certificate in Life Coaching
• Certificate in DBT Individual Therapy Training
• Certificate in Personality Disorder Awareness
• Master’s Degree in Person Centred Counselling
• Certificate and Advanced Certificate in Person Centred Counselling.

As for me personally, I enjoy meeting people, learning new things, DIY and socialising but also cherish relaxing times like spending time with my family and socialising with friends, some of whom I have known since primary school. I have a bright and bubbly personality and get on well with people regardless of things like age, gender, culture or background.

My aim is to support people to not only live, but to live the best life that they can, whilst managing whatever situation they may be experiencing.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people want to know whether online therapy can make a real difference. For a range of common concerns – such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges or adapting to life changes – research and clinical practice show that online therapy can be comparable to traditional in-person sessions for many people.

A major benefit is flexibility. Individuals can choose the way they connect that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging – which can make it simpler to fit therapy into a busy life.

Each therapist available is a licensed professional, and clients have the option to switch therapists if they feel another fit would be better. Online therapy offers a convenient route to regular support while retaining the professional standards expected of practising therapists.
