Scott Shepherd holds a Master of Science degree and practices as a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina. He brings 30 years of experience in mental health and substance abuse work, supporting people across the lifespan who face challenges such as substance use and co-occurring disorders, depression, anxiety, PTSD, stress and anger management, difficult life changes, and struggles that can lead to impulsive or compulsive choices.
His approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy, helping people increase awareness of the situations that trouble them, consider alternative perspectives, and choose interventions that fit their goals. He combines this foundation with rational emotive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing to promote self-empowerment and practical coping skills. He also uses solution-focused techniques and trauma-focused CBT when appropriate.
Scott aims to help individuals move toward their fullest potential by addressing wounds from childhood trauma to grief and loss, rebuilding self-esteem, and developing healthier relationships and coping strategies. He provides support throughout the therapeutic journey and offers multiple ways to connect, including messaging, live chat, phone, and video sessions.
Research and practice have shown that for many common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions – online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person care. It offers an accessible option for addressing everyday mental health needs without changing the quality of therapeutic work.
One major benefit is flexibility – people can meet with therapists in the format that fits their life best, whether by video sessions, phone conversations, live chat, or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it easier to keep continuity with care and to fit therapy into busy schedules.
Licensed professionals provide online services, and clients may choose to switch therapists if they seek a different fit. For many individuals, remote counseling provides a practical, evidence-informed path to working on concerns and building coping strategies while maintaining the convenience of remote access.
