Peter Plaistowe has worked as a qualified counsellor since 2017 and brings eight years of experience to his practice in the United Kingdom.
At the heart of his work is the careful cultivation of a compassionate and respectful therapeutic relationship, creating a space where clients can feel safe to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences.
He has worked extensively with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, work-related issues, lack of motivation and bereavement, with a particular specialism in bereavement related to substance misuse. Peter believes that reflecting on the past can lead to a deeper understanding of oneself, and that this understanding is an essential first step toward change.
Peter offers both short-term and long-term therapy, recognising that some life events require immediate practical support while other concerns benefit from more sustained, deeper exploration.
As an integrative counsellor he draws on a range of established therapeutic approaches and adapts the mix to suit each individual client; the approaches he uses include person-centred work, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and transactional analysis.
He understands that choosing a counsellor can feel overwhelming and intimidating, and he is willing to arrange a 20-minute free phone call to discuss a prospective client’s needs and options.
Many people ask whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions for most people.
One major benefit is flexibility. Clients can connect with a therapist in the way that suits them best - by video call, phone session, live chat or in-app messaging - which makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.
Therapy delivered online is provided by licensed professionals, and if a client feels a different fit would be better they can switch therapists at any time.
