Neil Steinert is a licensed clinical social worker practicing in New Jersey with over 13 years of clinical experience. He provides therapy for a wide range of concerns, including stress and anxiety, depression, relationship issues, non-monogamy and polyamory, confidence and self-esteem, gender-related matters, parenting challenges, habit change, PTSD and trauma, anger management, grief, intimacy-related issues, family conflicts, career difficulties, coaching, and ADHD.
His approach blends several evidence-informed methods familiar to many people - cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), work with attachment styles, and principles of positive psychology. He also draws on solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness practices. Neil is an active advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and supports appropriate use of plant medicines in therapy, mentioning MDMA, cannabis, and psilocybin as examples of treatments he believes may have therapeutic value when used properly.
In sessions he partners with clients to address the concerns that bring them to therapy, building on each person’s existing strengths while teaching additional tools and strategies tailored to their goals. He aims for a collaborative, practical style that helps people navigate both everyday stressors and deeper life transitions.
Born and raised in Utah, Neil relocated to New Jersey in 1999 where he completed his university education, started a family, and has lived since. He has experienced divorce in his personal life. Outside of work he enjoys vegetarian cooking and eating, rock climbing, backpacking, yoga, and exploring local restaurants. He looks forward to meeting clients and working together.
Neil notes that he often has more availability than what appears on this site; prospective clients are invited to contact him so he can arrange a time that fits both schedules. Once enrolled through the site’s services, clients will be able to message him and he will respond within 24 hours.
