Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
As a therapist my goal is to assist people with making practical changes in their lives.
Making therapeutic progress can alleviate suffering and increase satisfaction with life but the process can be a painful journey especially when family of origin or significant others are involved. The counseling strategies I use are a mix of developmental, psycho-dynamic, cognitive, reality therapy and experiential practices.
The heart of my effort is client centered and client motivated. I encourage authentic discussion about these strategies and value decision making by those I serve. As the client it is your decision to determine what you want from therapy and about what changes you want to make in your life. I will be your partner and will walk with you until you reach your goals.
I have fifteen years of experience in counseling practice. The areas of my practice have focused a lot on men and women, relationship conflict, trauma and abuse, parenting issues and families with substance abuse, incarceration and reentry, combat veterans and readjustment to civilian life, anxiety, depression, anger management and coping with life changes.

Michael Misterka helps people make practical changes to reduce suffering and increase satisfaction in their lives.
He views therapeutic progress as a process that can relieve distress but also involve difficult moments, especially when family of origin or significant others play a role. His approach mixes developmental, psychodynamic, cognitive, reality therapy and experiential practices to address those challenges.
The work is client-centered and driven by the client’s goals. Michael encourages open, authentic discussion about therapeutic strategies and supports clients in making their own decisions about the changes they want to pursue. He partners with clients and remains alongside them until they reach their objectives.
Michael brings 15 years of counseling experience to his practice. He has focused extensively on men and women facing relationship conflict, trauma and abuse, parenting challenges, and families affected by substance use, incarceration and reentry. His practice also includes work with combat veterans readjusting to civilian life, and with individuals managing anxiety, depression, anger, and major life transitions.
He is a licensed clinical social worker in Maryland, and combines practical guidance with an empathetic, client-focused style.
