Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
My name is Michael Leunig and I am a Member of the BACP as a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and Accredited with the GHR as Clinical Hypnotherapist and recognised Supervisor. I was born in Germany and due to family circumstances, we moved around a lot. My early life experience, childhood trauma, and then my journey through adulthood, battling depression and anger issues, have helped me to become the therapist that I am today. My healing began with Mindfulness and I became a Mindfulness Master Practitioner, eventually teaching courses to groups and therapists who wanted to incorporate Mindfulness into their practice.
The next step on my journey was following the dream of studying at a University and I enrolled at Salford University. I studied Counselling and Psychotherapy, and one of my proudest moments was achieving a degree, with my family around me on my graduation. Since then I have studied Clinical Hypnotherapy and now I teach courses on this subject. I have worked for Mind, the mental health charity in the UK. Furthermore, whilst working for Mind, I have been involved with the Blue Lights scheme, working with Police, Firefighters, ICU Nurses, and Counter Terrorism Offices. I have worked in various NHS Surgeries across the North of England working with patients through Solution Focused Therapy. Now I am in private practice, and my practice has won multi awards over the past few years for the most caring Psychotherapy and Clinical Hypnotherapy Practice SME NEWS AWARDS. I currently hold the position as Mind Coach for the Oldham Rugby League Football Team.
However, that is my history and what is really important is, what I can do for you. I believe that it is every bodies birth right to be happy. Yet, sometimes people become stuck, what ever that stuckness may be, either through grief, childhood trauma, divorce, or abuse. I help people to become unstuck, to let go of their past, and to become that which they were always meant to be. I believe that my life experiences place me in a position to be able to walk with you on your journey. No, I do not know how you feel, only you know that. I believe that you already have the answers that you need to move forward, and I would like to help you find those answers.
I work through an integrative approach, using skills from Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behaviour therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique, Life Coaching, but most being there for you on your journey.

Michael Leunig is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), and accredited with the GHR as a clinical hypnotherapist and recognised supervisor. Born in Germany, he moved frequently during childhood because of family circumstances, and those early experiences, together with childhood trauma, have shaped his approach to therapy.
His personal journey through adulthood included periods of depression and difficulties with anger, experiences that influenced his decision to train and practise as a therapist. His own healing began with Mindfulness, and he went on to become a Mindfulness Master Practitioner, delivering courses to groups and to other therapists wishing to integrate Mindfulness into their work.
Michael followed a long-held aim to study at university and completed a degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Salford University, celebrating that achievement with his family at graduation. He subsequently trained in Clinical Hypnotherapy and now teaches courses in that field. His professional background includes work for Mind, the mental health charity in the UK, and involvement in the Blue Lights scheme supporting Police, Firefighters, ICU Nurses, and Counter Terrorism Officers. He has also worked in a number of NHS surgeries across the North of England, offering Solution Focused Therapy to patients.
Now in private practice, his service has received multiple awards over recent years, including recognition from the SME News Awards for Psychotherapy and Clinical Hypnotherapy. He also serves as Mind Coach for the Oldham Rugby League Football Team and brings six years of therapeutic experience to his work.
Michael believes that everyone has a right to happiness but that people can become stuck for many reasons – grief, childhood trauma, divorce, or abuse among them. He supports people to become unstuck, to let go of the past, and to move toward who they were meant to be. He does not claim to know how someone feels – only the individual knows that – and he works from the view that clients already hold the answers they need; his role is to help them find those answers. He uses an integrative approach, drawing on Person Centred therapy, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Life Coaching, while remaining present and supportive throughout the therapeutic journey.
