Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I am licensed in California with 33 years of professional work experience.
I have worked with a variety of client issues over my career and have a special affinity for those with ADHD and Learning Differences. These neurodiverse conditions often show up as depression, social anxiety, isolation, disorganization, and academic and workplace failures before young or older adults realize they have ADHD. Additionally, I have expertise with high-functioning Autism Spectrum, (formerly Asperger Syndrome), Non-verbal Learning Disorder NLD), and Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD).
Many clients present with anxiety, grief, motivational blocks, addiction,
low self-esteem, and self-image distortion.
That said, the focus of my treatment approach is relational. Through a Behavioral-Cognitive lens, I seek to establish a trusting relationship, helping my clients reveal to themselves the unique strengths they have while not diminishing the importance of exploring current self-concepts.
I believe it is never too late to discover one’s abilities and gifts and that we have it within ourselves to overcome defeats and habits that hold us back from realizing our potential. It is an honor to work with individuals on this path.

Merry McKinnon is a California-licensed therapist (CA LMFT 29647) with 33 years of professional experience. She has worked with a wide range of concerns throughout her career and has a particular affinity for supporting people with ADHD and learning differences.
Those neurodiverse conditions frequently show up as depression, social anxiety, isolation, disorganization, and academic or workplace difficulties before young or older adults recognize underlying ADHD. Merry also has experience with high-functioning Autism Spectrum (formerly Asperger Syndrome), Non-verbal Learning Disorder (NLD), and Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD).
Many of the people she sees present with anxiety, grief, motivational blocks, addiction, low self-esteem, or distorted self-image. Her primary focus is relational; through a behavioral-cognitive lens she aims to build a trusting therapeutic relationship while helping individuals uncover their unique strengths and examine current self-concepts.
As an older, non-religious, liberal female therapist practicing in California, Merry believes it is never too late to discover abilities and gifts and that people can overcome patterns that limit their potential. She considers it an honor to work with individuals on that path.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One clear benefit is flexibility – individuals can connect with a therapist in the format that fits their life, whether that is a video call, a phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. This variety makes it easier to schedule care around work, family, and other commitments.
Therapists offering online care are licensed professionals, and patients have the option to change therapists if they want a different fit. For many people, the combination of proven effectiveness and adaptable access makes online therapy a practical option for addressing everyday mental health needs.
