Mary Prime is a professional counsellor based in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, with 7 years of experience and a role as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) within an NHS talking therapies service.
She originally trained in person-centred counselling and qualified in 2018, and has since completed a higher level diploma that enables her to integrate additional counselling approaches and adapt her work to each person’s needs.
Since the global COVID-19 pandemic she has predominantly worked online, valuing the flexibility this offers and providing mainly evening and weekend appointments to accommodate busy lifestyles and improve accessibility to therapy.
Over the course of her practice she has supported many hundreds of clients with common mental health concerns including anxiety, stress, low mood and depression, and has worked with people who have experienced suicidal thoughts or self-harm urges.
Mary also works with relationship-related difficulties and supports young people through life transitions such as starting university, learning to live independently, and moving into professional life, as well as coping with loss whether through relationship breakdown or bereavement.
One of her specialist interests is working with people who have chronic pain and other long-term health conditions. She draws on 15 years of lived experience with a chronic pain condition to bring enhanced empathy and to discuss practical adaptations and management strategies for everyday life.
Mary has experience supporting unpaid carers and aims to help them reconnect with their own needs while building coping skills that sustain both personal wellbeing and the care they provide.
She has lived experience of neurodiversity, having received later-life diagnoses of Autism, ADHD and dyslexia, and is also a parent of a child with Autism. These perspectives inform her work with neurodiverse adults and with parents of children who have ADHD, Autism or dyslexia, and she seeks to support people in finding ways to thrive with less need to mask.
Mary addresses a wide range of issues including stress, anxiety, grief, depression, coping with life changes, relationship and family difficulties, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related concerns, eating and sleeping problems, parenting, self-esteem, career matters, compassion fatigue and ADHD. She provides non-religious, female-led therapy and aims to offer a supportive space for exploration and growth.
She believes that with the right support people can move toward a more rewarding and manageable life, and she welcomes messages from anyone who feels there could be a good fit to arrange an initial meeting and discuss their needs.
