Marcela Mota Aversa was born and raised in Mexico City and has lived in Boston for the past 26 years. She is very comfortable in English and Spanish.
She studied the career twice and brings a practical, generalist perspective to clinical work. Her approach to therapy is co-constructivist, collaborative, strength-based, and solution-oriented.
Marcela believes that people are the experts in their own stories and that her role is to walk alongside them, offering companionship and guidance as needed.
She holds an MA and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), license number LMHC5000512. Altogether she has over twenty years of experience, four of those years practicing in Massachusetts, and she has been in 12-step based recovery for 16 years.
Marcela is an advocate for teletherapy and finds that telehealth can be more efficient than face-to-face sessions in many ways. She thinks of her work much like a family PCP – a broad, generalist practice with deep interest in people and their stories.
She welcomes the opportunity to hear others’ experiences. Marcela believes that those who seek help are often the kind of people who get the help they need and make progress, and she looks forward to meeting prospective clients.
Many people wonder whether remote sessions can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person care.
A key benefit is flexibility. Clients can connect with therapists in the way that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which often makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.
These options also make it simpler to maintain consistency and keep momentum in treatment. Licensed professionals provide care through these channels, and if a different match is desired, clients are able to switch therapists at any time.
