Dr. Krista Barbera

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hello! By looking into help opportunities, you’ve taken a big step toward making a life change. The next big step is finding the right person to work with you! I firmly believe anyone who wants to learn and grow, become healthier, or just cope with the day-to-day stressors of life can benefit from working with a well-matched therapist.

In addition to being a clinically-trained, doctoral-level psychologist who has worked in a variety of settings (academic, correctional, community/business, and private practice), I’m also a wife, mom, church Worship Leader, and former secondary English teacher. My experiences have exposed me to many of the challenges and struggles life can bring, and it is my strong opinion that the happiest and most successful people are those who recognize when they need help, have the wisdom to look for it in the right places, and can balance the courage and humility it takes to accept it once they find it. Often the best support and advice can be found in trusted family members and/or friends. However, for most of us, challenges and struggles do arise from time to time for which we just need something different. I offer knowledge and skills along with objectivity, insight, and confidentiality to join with clients in their efforts to overcome challenges, find a sense of peace, and thrive.

As mentioned above, I have worked with clients in a variety of settings, both outpatient and inpatient. Most of my work has been with adults and adolescents, though I do have some experience with pre-teens. At this time, I’m focusing my professional efforts on working with adults in individual therapy, but I am comfortable working on relationship, family, and/or parenting issues in that context. I’ve successfully treated clients presenting with a diversity of issues, including emotional and behavioral problems and disorders, personality disorders, relationship difficulties, school and work issues, adjustment difficulties, and addiction-related problems.

Meeting my clients where they are with respect, empathy, and compassion is my overarching goal. I have a Christian worldview which is foundational to everything I do, personally and professionally. This worldview undergirds my cognitive-behavioral orientation, and I am comfortable incorporating techniques from other theoretical approaches to help my clients develop, progress, and achieve healthy goals. I have had success and enjoy working with individuals from all walks of life, so if my background and approach sound like they might meet your needs, contact me.

About

Dr. Krista Barbera believes that people who want to learn, grow, become healthier, or better manage everyday stressors can benefit from a well-matched therapeutic relationship.

Dr. Barbera is a clinically trained, doctoral-level psychologist who has practiced in academic, correctional, community and business, and private practice settings. She brings eight years of experience working with adults and adolescents, and she has some experience with pre-teens. Currently she focuses her professional work on individual therapy for adults while remaining comfortable addressing relationship, family, and parenting issues within that context.

Her background also includes roles outside of clinical work – she is a wife, a mother, a church Worship Leader, and a former secondary English teacher. Those life experiences inform her perspective and contribute to her understanding of the challenges clients face.

Dr. Barbera has successfully treated people presenting with a range of concerns, including emotional and behavioral problems and disorders, personality disorders, relationship difficulties, school and work issues, adjustment challenges, and addiction-related problems. She aims to join clients with knowledge and skills plus objectivity, insight, and confidentiality to help them overcome obstacles, find greater calm, and thrive.

Her practice is informed by a Christian worldview that undergirds a cognitive-behavioral orientation, and she is comfortable incorporating techniques from other theoretical approaches to support client growth and goal attainment. She meets clients where they are with respect, empathy, and compassion.

Dr. Barbera is a licensed psychologist in New Jersey (license number 35SI00647900) and practices in New Jersey. She is also PsyPact credentialed – if a prospective client’s primary residence is outside New Jersey they should check the current PsyPact map at https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap to confirm whether their state participates in the interstate compact. As of this writing, 39 states have joined the compact, and her credentialing permits telehealth practice in those participating states. If a state is not a PsyPact member, a client will need a provider who holds a license to practice in their state of primary residence.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can genuinely help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person treatment for most people.

One major advantage is flexibility – clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether by video call, phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. This variety of options makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.

Each therapist is a licensed professional, and clients have the option to request a different therapist at any time if they feel a different fit would work better. Online care can provide an accessible route to consistent support for many common mental health and life concerns.
