Kaniecia Mixon welcomes people who are ready to choose courage over comfort and seek support. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in California with 15 years of clinical experience working with individuals, children, adolescents, and families.
She holds a B.A. in Psychology and an M.S. in Counseling with specialized training in Marriage and Family Therapy. Over her career she has addressed a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship and social difficulties, parenting challenges, life transitions, anger management, ADHD, and the effects of trauma such as physical, sexual, or emotional abuse.
Much of her work has focused on crisis stabilization - creating safety plans, developing healthy coping skills, strengthening natural supports, and increasing awareness of presenting struggles. She has provided therapy and behavioral support to young people ages 5-19, worked as a Therapeutic Behavioral Services clinician providing case management and parent coaching, and now supervises clinical staff who deliver similar services for ages 0-21.
Her counseling style is described as warm, authentic, and collaborative. She practices from a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and eclectic framework, blending person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, psychodynamic, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness approaches as needed. She tailors conversations and treatment plans to each person’s needs and often incorporates art, creativity, and play into the therapeutic process.
Kaniecia believes people generally know what they need and aims to walk alongside clients as they identify goals, build skills, and stay accountable to the changes they want to make. She offers supportive guidance to those ready to take the first steps toward a more fulfilling and balanced life.
Many people wonder whether online therapy truly helps. For common concerns - such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life changes - virtual therapy has been found to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care.
A major benefit is the flexibility it offers. Individuals can choose the mode of connection that fits their needs and comfort level - video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging - which makes it easier to integrate therapy into a busy schedule.
Sessions are provided by licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they prefer a different fit. For many people, online therapy provides accessible, professional support for everyday mental health and life challenges.
