John Berst invites people to share their stories and explore pathways toward greater balance, joy, and serenity. He begins work with each person by recognizing the courage it takes to start thoughtful self-exploration and builds therapy around the strengths clients bring to the process.
He is a licensed professional counselor practicing in Michigan and has provided licensed therapy services for over ten years, while his experience helping people stretches back more than 30 years. John earned a master’s degree from Western Michigan University in 2010, a step he took to integrate long-standing practical experience with formal training and professional standards.
John’s approach is primarily person-centered, focusing first on understanding an individual’s unique story before shaping a plan. He stays grounded in practical, solution-focused methods so therapy can reflect what actually works for each person while remaining rooted in their lived experience and needs.
He continues ongoing training and education to maintain professional growth and to remain engaged with the craft of counseling. John has worked with people of all ages and backgrounds, and each encounter informs his practice as he seeks both what is universal about the human experience and what is singular to each client’s life.
John looks forward to partnering with individuals who are ready to discover their best selves and to pursue meaningful, sustainable change.
Many people question whether online therapy can truly help. For a range of common concerns - including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions - online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.
One major benefit is flexibility. Clients can connect with a therapist in the way that best suits them - with video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging - which makes it easier to fit therapy into busy schedules.
Therapists practicing online are licensed professionals, and individuals may choose to switch therapists at any time if they are seeking a different fit. For many people seeking help with everyday mental health and relationship needs, online therapy provides a practical, effective option.
