Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Hello! I am here for you, to listen and guide. What exactly does that mean? I understand the issues that you bring to our sessions are very important to you. You deserve to be heard. And in the process of listening to you, I intend to question and comment, giving you compassion, reflection, and the sum total of my expertise.
That experience is broad and complex. I have a master’s degree in Educational Psychology from The University of Wisconsin– Milwaukee (1983) and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Wisconsin. In August of 2014, I also earned a Certificate of Completion from The University of Wisconsin– Madison, focused on the topic of Mental Health and the Older Adult. It was important to me to back up my experience with scientific evidence regarding the aging process.
After teaching middle school students for 15 years, I discovered that the best part of the school day was counseling individuals after school! So I became a guidance counselor, working in the same school long enough to counsel the children of my former students. I progressed into in-home therapy, working with teens who had a “brush” with the law. Rather than put them in detention, a judge would send them back home, to the same school, but with a counselor (like me!) who worked with them in both the school setting as well as the home setting. I eventually worked with another organization that specialized in helping Medicaid families. They needed counseling in child rearing, budgeting, time management, and basic survival skills.
My therapeutic style is eclectic, that is, I use a variety of techniques to reach the goals you, the client, set in the beginning of our relationship. I do more listening than speaking. I move as fast or as slowly as you choose. Hopefully, you will trust me enough to be honest with me, knowing I won’t judge you or hurt you with my words. I believe that people can change. If you are ready, I would love to support you in your journey. It would be a privilege to work with you.

Johanna Lopez is a compassionate, experienced counselor who focuses on listening closely and offering thoughtful guidance. She approaches sessions with empathy and reflection, asking questions and sharing observations while drawing on decades of professional expertise to help clients reach their goals.
She holds a master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee earned in 1983, and she is licensed to practice as a professional counselor in Wisconsin (licensure: WI LPC 1560-125). In August 2014 she completed a certificate program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison concentrating on mental health and the older adult, a training she pursued to ground her experience in current research about aging.
Her career began in education, where she taught middle school for 15 years before moving into school-based counseling. She served as a guidance counselor in the same school long enough to counsel the children of her former students. Johanna later provided in-home therapy to adolescents who had experienced a run-in with the law, working both in school settings and within the home when judges redirected youth back to their communities with therapeutic support. She also worked with an agency focused on supporting Medicaid families, providing practical counseling in child rearing, budgeting, time management, and basic survival skills.
With 35 years of experience, Johanna uses an eclectic therapeutic style, selecting techniques that match the goals set at the start of therapy. She tends to listen more than speak and moves at the pace the client prefers. She strives to be nonjudgmental and encourages honesty, holding the belief that people can change. If a person is ready for support, Johanna would consider it a privilege to accompany them on their journey.
People often wonder whether remote therapy makes a real difference. For many of the most common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions – online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One major benefit is flexibility. Individuals can connect with a therapist using the method that fits their routine and comfort level – video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging – making it easier to schedule care around work, family, and other commitments.
Therapists providing online services are licensed professionals, and clients generally have the option to change providers if they seek a different fit. For many people, these factors make online therapy a practical and effective path to getting support.
