Jill Duffy is a licensed clinical social worker in North Carolina who holds a Master of Social Work and has 14 years of experience providing therapy services.
She has worked with families and children across numerous settings, including private non-profits, mental health, social services and K-12 education. Her clinical work with adults has addressed issues such as abuse and neglect, domestic violence, parent-child conflict, intergenerational trauma, and related diagnoses including depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, self-harm and substance abuse.
She retired from public education as a Director of Student Support Services in July 2020 and is currently rostered as a Resiliency Educator. The training curricula she uses are trauma-informed and grounded in the body’s neuro-biological response to stress.
Her treatment style is holistic, strengths-based, client-centered and solutions-focused. She employs techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness training, psycho-educational counseling and resiliency tools, and provides case management when advocacy or community supports are needed.
As a clinical social worker, she involves clients in developing their treatment plans so goals and desired outcomes are clear and collaborative. Guided by the NASW Code of Ethics, her approach is non-judgmental, respectful, genuine and sensitive to each person’s situation. She is comfortable working with individuals, couples and families who are experiencing a crisis and strives to offer a welcoming, safe space to a diverse client population.
She finds that video sessions are often the most effective way to establish a strong therapeutic connection and encourages clients to use video when possible. Her professional goal is to provide clients with practical skills to manage current circumstances and to apply those skills to future challenges. If her strategic approach aligns with a client’s counseling expectations, she is available to help them work toward their goals.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One major benefit is flexibility - individuals can connect with a therapist in the format that fits their life, whether through video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. That variety makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule and to choose the communication style that feels most comfortable.
Licensed professionals provide online therapy, and if a client feels another therapist would be a better fit, it is possible to switch. Online care can make consistent support more accessible while allowing clients to work with trained therapists using a range of communication options.
