Jalisa Lewis

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

My name is Jalisa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over five years of experience providing therapy services. I have worked in a wide range of therapeutic settings to include: inpatient psychiatric hospital, residential behavioral treatment facility, a medical hospital (working within a pediatric intensive care unit), as well as within higher education. I have experience working with clients affected by depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma and relationship challenges from individual, group and family work.

While I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, my approach is extremely client centered. I believe that you, the client, are the experts on your life and determine the direction and depth of therapy. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide clients in identifying strengths and developing treatment plans that accomplish their goals. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I assist clients in exploring relationships among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to aid in discovering dysfunctional thought patterns leading to self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. I am also trained in the evidence based model of Functional Family Therapy (FFT) where I view the entire family unit as the identified client, working to engage and motivate, facilitate behavior change, and generalize the skills learned to areas outside of the home.

I do not take it lightly that you have chosen me to support you during what may be a challenging time in your life. My hope is to aid you in living a more empowered and peaceful life!

My areas of interest include racial equality and ethnic diversity, women’s empowerment, and the relationship between physical/mental wellness.

Should you feel in need of urgent help or that you are in crisis at any time during our work together; please call 1-800-273-TALK 24 hours a day; or 911. This forum does not provide any type of emergency services, so I want to be sure you know who to contact if you need immediate help.

Her clinical background includes work across multiple settings, such as an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a residential behavioral treatment facility, a medical hospital where she worked within a pediatric intensive care unit, and roles within higher education. These varied environments have shaped her approach to working with people facing depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma and abuse, relationship challenges, family conflicts, parenting concerns, grief, intimacy-related issues, anger management, self-esteem difficulties, bipolar disorder, compassion fatigue, ADHD, and coping with life changes.

Jalisa takes a strongly client-centered stance, believing that the individual is the expert on their own life and that therapy should follow the client’s priorities. She employs Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to explore the links among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and she is trained in the evidence-based model of Functional Family Therapy, which treats the family unit as the identified client and focuses on engagement, motivation, behavior change, and generalizing skills beyond the home.

Jalisa does not take lightly the responsibility of supporting someone through difficult times, and her aim is to help people move toward a more empowered and peaceful life. Her professional interests include racial equality and ethnic diversity, women’s empowerment, and the connection between physical and mental wellness.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person care for most individuals.

One major benefit is flexibility – clients can connect in the format that works best for them, including video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it easier to fit therapy into busy schedules and to access support from where one is most comfortable.

Therapists providing online care are licensed professionals, and clients have the ability to change therapists if they feel a different fit would be more helpful. For many people, remote therapy offers an accessible and practical way to receive evidence-informed support for everyday mental health concerns.
