Hilary Stover

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hi, I’m Hilary! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LISW-CP) in South Carolina and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Oregon. I have experience working with adolescents and adults with a wide range of concerns including trauma and PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance use, self-esteem, stress, ADHD, motivation, health and wellness, anger, parenting, and coping with challenges and adjustments. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals on an outpatient and inpatient basis within community agencies, private hospitals, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and my own private practice. Ultimately, providing therapy through this virtual platform has become my favorite modality for therapy as it breaks down barriers, opens up doors and allows you to communicate with me when and how you want.

My passion is to help you move forward by taking the steps needed to move in the direction you want to. To do that, I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I am also certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure and Focused Health Coaching. The approach we take together will depend on your specific situation. As everyone is different, I tailor these approaches to your specific needs, goals, and situations. Throughout our journey, I will remain warm, gentle, empathetic, and firm while pushing you to reach your goals through honesty, support and effective techniques. I work with each individual to develop and practice cognitive and behavioral coping skills to manage stress and stressful situations throughout life. I believe in finding the strengths within each of you, and using these strengths to adapt, cope, and grow.

I often reinforce that if you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always gotten. So, what does all of this mean if you choose to begin therapy? It simply means we will work together to figure out how to change. We will find some thoughts and behaviors that may be keeping you “stuck,” and find more helpful thoughts and behaviors that lead to feeling better emotionally and reaching your goals.

I also believe the basis of any life-changing journey is a strong therapeutic relationship, and I enjoy spending time getting to know each of you to foster that support.

When you are ready, I look forward meeting you, getting to know you, and supporting and empowering you to reach your goals and live the life you want to live.

About

Hilary Stover is a licensed clinical social worker practicing in South Carolina and Oregon with 15 years of clinical experience. Her background includes work in both outpatient and inpatient settings within community agencies, private hospitals, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and her own private practice. Providing therapy through a virtual platform has become a preferred modality for her, as it reduces barriers and allows clients to connect in ways that suit their schedules and comfort levels.

Hilary draws on evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, and she holds certifications in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Focused Health Coaching. Treatment is individualized; she selects and adapts techniques based on each person’s specific needs, goals, and circumstances.

Clients can expect a therapeutic stance that is warm and empathetic yet direct and goal-oriented. Hilary emphasizes honesty, consistent support, and practical skill-building, working with individuals to develop cognitive and behavioral coping strategies for managing stress and difficult situations. She also focuses on identifying and leveraging each person’s existing strengths to promote adaptation and growth.

Believing that meaningful change depends on both action and a strong therapeutic relationship, Hilary partners with clients to identify patterns that maintain being “stuck” and to replace them with more helpful thoughts and behaviors. When a person is ready to begin, she looks forward to meeting them, learning their story, and supporting them in moving toward the life they want to live.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and navigating life transitions, research and clinical practice indicate that remote therapy can be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.

One of the main benefits is convenience and flexibility – clients can choose the format that fits them best, whether that is video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging. This adaptability makes it easier to maintain consistency and fit therapy into a busy life.

Therapists offering online services are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change providers if they feel a different fit would be more helpful. For many people, virtual care removes logistical obstacles and creates clearer pathways to engaging in regular therapeutic work.
