Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
About me
Beginning this journey can be challenging, so let me first acknowledge the courage it takes to reach out. Of course, we want to know more about the person who will be supporting us on our journey.
I am an accredited member of the BACP and I hold a Master’s degree in psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy from Birkbeck, University of London. I also hold a BA in psychology from the University of Sussex. I have over 10 years’ professional experience working in mental health, both in the public and private sectors, before which I worked in the arts and education. It has always been my passion to work with people – to connect with their true selves and their potential.
The core of how I work is psychodynamic, exploring how past experiences and coping patterns are affecting life in the present, often as unconscious elements and processes. Each individual’s process is unique, and my goal is that we create create one collaboratively, in which all aspects of your self can be invited, validated and potentially changed. I also integrate elements of other modalities I have training in, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and internal family systems (IFS), when this feels appropriate and helpful.
It is my belief and experience that we all have the deep capacity to identify and grow towards this potential, which can become blocked through trauma, difficulty, and oppression. In my therapy sessions, I work with gentle curiosity and compassion as we honestly explore the often unconscious causes of stuckness and suffering, and find paths toward greater understanding, healing, and happiness.

Hal Thompson recognises the courage it takes to begin therapy and aims to offer a professional, approachable space for that work. He is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and holds a Master’s degree in psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy from Birkbeck, University of London, as well as a BA in psychology from the University of Sussex.
He has 3 years of experience providing therapy services and has worked in mental health across public and private settings, having previously worked in the arts and education. His practice is grounded in psychodynamic principles, exploring how past experiences and habitual coping patterns influence life in the present, often through unconscious processes.
Each person’s therapeutic journey is treated as unique, and Hal seeks to develop a collaborative plan in which different parts of the self can be invited, understood, and changed where needed. He also draws on training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and internal family systems (IFS) and will integrate techniques from these approaches when they feel appropriate and useful.
Hal works with gentle curiosity and compassion, examining the often hidden causes of stuckness and distress and helping clients identify pathways toward greater understanding, healing, and wellbeing.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can make a real difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person work for most people.
One major benefit is flexibility – clients can choose the format that fits their life best, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This makes it easier to schedule regular sessions and maintain momentum between appointments.
Sessions are offered by licensed professionals, and you have the option to change therapists if you feel a different match would suit you better. Online therapy can be a practical, accessible way to engage in meaningful therapeutic work from wherever you are.
