Danielle Cummings believes every person carries a story worth hearing and approaches therapy with genuine curiosity and presence. She has worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups, and brings a consistent intention to connect deeply with each person she meets. Danielle values being present in the moment and offers a compassionate, empathetic approach to therapy.
She shares a life with a partner of more than 18 years and is a parent to two children, ages 11 and 13. Danielle also finds comfort and therapeutic connection through her three dogs, and she enjoys spending time in nature. She has traveled and lived in several places, with Shanghai, China noted as a favorite. Danielle purposefully seeks to understand people from diverse socio-economic, cultural, racial, ethnic, and spiritual backgrounds and aims to make a difference alongside marginalized communities.
Danielle often invites clients to imagine themselves as the driver while she sits in the passenger seat - a metaphor for collaborative work in which the client guides the direction and she offers support, intuition, empathy, compassion, wisdom, and steady presence. She emphasizes that clients are the experts on their own lives and encourages those who are ready to take a chance on getting to know themselves better and navigating life’s challenges together.
With eight years of clinical experience in community mental health, Danielle has worked with people across the lifespan, from age 4 to 85, facing a wide range of mental health struggles. Her training includes techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness practices, acceptance and commitment therapy, and systemic therapy, among others. She earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Counseling from Johnson University in Knoxville, Tennessee, and is licensed in Indiana as a marriage and family therapist (IN LMFT 35002192A).
As many people reflect on purpose, relationships, and satisfaction in recent years, Danielle sees this as an important time to begin or continue a healing journey. She will not push anyone beyond their readiness, but she is prepared to travel wherever the work needs to go - whether that means exploring deep roots from childhood experiences such as abuse or neglect, or focusing on present-day concerns that require relief and practical support.
