Catherine Duthie is a licensed clinical professional counselor based in Maine with 18 years of experience supporting people who want to change problematic behaviors and improve their lives. She earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Substance Abuse and Addictions from Antioch University in Keene, N.H., and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Southern Maine in Portland.
She holds a Clinical Professional Counselor license in Maine and also holds alcohol and drug counseling credentials (ME LCPC CC3741). Her work has included roles at a community mental health agency, a medical center, and a hospital, which contributes to her experience in integrative care and treating co-occurring disorders.
Catherine’s clinical interests and areas of expertise include substance use and addictions, depression, anxiety, anger management, relapse prevention, trauma and abuse, and related concerns such as relationship and family conflicts. She regularly uses approaches such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-sensitive practices, and psychoeducation to help clients build skills and meet their goals.
Outside of her clinical work she enjoys running, kayaking, swimming, reading, and spending time with her daughter. Catherine looks forward to meeting people where they are, listening to their history, and focusing on the direction they want to move toward.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person treatment.
One major benefit is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that feels most convenient, whether through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This adaptability can make it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule and maintain continuity over time.
Licensed professionals provide online care, and if someone decides they would prefer a different therapist, switching to another provider is an available option. For many people, online sessions offer a practical, accessible path to working on familiar mental health concerns with trained therapists.
