Dr. Brenda Goldwater Lerner

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

I am a licensed psychologist in Florida with about 12 years of professional work experience. I help people who experience stress and anxiety, coping with grief and loss, as well as depression and those who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorders. I provide clinical “holistic psychotherapy” for individuals. My early training is in behavioral medicine (an interdisciplinary field that studies the connections between the mind, the body, and the emotions). Through the years, I expanded my training towards a “spiritual integrative approach to psychotherapy.” This includes the application of techniques like mindfulness and meditation, among others. It is my belief that each person deserves a respectful consideration of their path of self-examination, and it is my position is to recognize, and adjust my treatment approach to this and your path.

In general terms, I assist people to identify and understand the origin of their symptoms by exploring behavioral, cognitive, and emotional patterns, that may identify a.) lifestyle (physicality, exercise, drug use, sleeping patterns, etc.), b.) core beliefs or “negative programming,” c.) moderate to severe emotional fluctuations, and d.) other manifestations that may arise. My goal is for you to experience greater self-awareness and clarity at all levels, which will afford you new ways and skills for dealing with the concerns and issues that brought you here. I usually work with people at a minimum frequency of once per week, but other arrangements can be agreed upon based on progress and other reasons. I usually begin our first meeting with a consultation. During this session, we will clarify your needs and presenting issues; discuss relevant personal and family history; and explore the ‘fit’ between us. At the conclusion of this session, I will share my initial impressions about your presenting problems and my ideas about how we should continue our relationship.

I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialogue and your treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and you should be proud of yourself for getting started!

About

Dr. Brenda Goldwater Lerner is a licensed psychologist in Florida with 12 years of professional experience. She works with people coping with stress and anxiety, grief and loss, depression, and those diagnosed with bipolar disorders, offering individual clinical holistic psychotherapy. Her professional credential is FL Psychologist PY8474, which denotes her Florida psychologist license number.

Her early training was in behavioral medicine, an interdisciplinary area that examines connections among the mind, body, and emotions. Over time she expanded her skill set to include a spiritual integrative approach to psychotherapy, incorporating practices such as mindfulness and meditation alongside other therapeutic techniques. She aims to honor each person’s pathway of self-examination and to adapt treatment to fit that path.

Dr. Lerner helps clients identify and better understand the origins of their symptoms by exploring behavioral, cognitive, and emotional patterns. This work can include reviewing lifestyle factors – for example physical activity, exercise, substance use, and sleep habits – as well as examining core beliefs or what she may refer to as “negative programming,” monitoring moderate to severe emotional fluctuations, and noting other manifestations that arise in daily life.

The clinical goal is increased self-awareness and clarity across multiple levels, so clients develop new skills and approaches for addressing the concerns that brought them to therapy. She generally meets with people at least once per week, though other scheduling arrangements can be made based on progress and individual circumstances.

Initial contact typically begins with a consultation session in which Dr. Lerner clarifies presenting needs, reviews relevant personal and family history, and assesses the fit between therapist and client. At the end of that meeting she shares initial impressions and discusses ideas for how the therapeutic relationship might continue.

Dr. Lerner emphasizes respect, sensitivity, and compassion in her work and tailors both conversation and treatment plans to each person’s specific needs. Taking the first step to begin therapy takes courage, and she recognizes that starting the process is an important accomplishment.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people ask whether meeting with a therapist online genuinely helps. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care.

One of the main benefits is convenience – clients can choose the format that fits their needs, whether that is video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility often makes it easier to attend sessions consistently and to integrate therapy into a busy life.

All participating professionals are licensed, and individuals have the option to change therapists if they prefer a different fit. For many people facing everyday mental health concerns, online therapy is a practical and effective way to access therapeutic support.
