Bobbi Cleary approaches counseling with a holistic view, believing emotional and mental wellness are central to overall balance. With 13 years of clinical experience, she takes joy in teaching tools that clients can use in everyday life, and she emphasizes empowerment as a way to help people access their own resilience and move toward healing, peace, and joy.
She tailors care to each person, recognizing that no two people are wired exactly the same. Cleary describes her style as eclectic - she draws on a range of therapeutic methods to meet the particular goals and challenges of each individual or couple. Her work incorporates reflective Rogerian techniques, cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness, self-compassion, self-regulation practices, and the Gottman approach, all aimed at building a safe, connected space where healing can occur.
Cleary earned a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University in 2005 and a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Studies with a minor in French from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1998. She has worked in psychiatric inpatient and residential settings - providing group, family, and individual therapy as well as intake assessments - and has experience in outpatient environments, including agency work and private practice. Living in Japan for a combined two years reinforced her interest in what motivates people and how language reflects culture.
Born and raised in Homer, Alaska, Cleary often uses the local landscape as a metaphor for human experience - like Kachemak Bay, people’s internal waters can be stormy or calm, yet calmer tides eventually find the shore. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in Alaska.
Many people wonder whether remote therapy makes a real difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or coping with life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care.
One major benefit is flexibility - clients can meet with a therapist in the format that fits their life, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it easier to incorporate therapy into busy schedules and varying needs.
All therapists involved are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they feel a different fit would be better. For many people, online therapy provides an accessible, effective way to address everyday mental health concerns and work toward their goals.
