Angela Mendiola was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and brings a decade of clinical experience to her counseling practice. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University of Honolulu, with a focus on mental health.
Her graduate training included internships at Kailua High School and the Chaminade University Counseling Center, as well as a national internship funded by North Carolina State University as a Project Youth Extension Service Intern, during which she served military youth affected by deployment for one year. She is a state-licensed mental health counselor in Hawaii.
Angela emphasizes cultural sensitivity, empathetic understanding and attentive listening as core elements of the therapeutic relationship. She views mental health as an important, ongoing practice at any stage of life and aims to support people in strengthening social connections, developing healthy coping skills and clarifying life goals.
Committed to education as a tool for change, she provides clients with self-help materials and articles from trusted sources to explain challenges and suggest steps toward positive change. Her clinical work has included supporting people through significant grief and loss, difficulties forming meaningful relationships, suicidal thoughts and the challenges of anxiety.
Her therapeutic approach focuses on helping clients identify and prioritize goals, brainstorming and exploring practical strategies, and building coping skills clients can begin using right away to produce meaningful, positive change.
Many people wonder whether counseling conducted online can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One major benefit is flexibility - individuals can connect with a therapist in the format that suits them best, whether through video sessions, phone calls, live chat or in-app messaging. This adaptability makes it easier to integrate therapy into a busy schedule.
Therapists who provide online care are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to switch providers if they prefer a different fit. For many people, the combination of evidence-based support and practical access makes online therapy a viable option for addressing everyday mental health concerns.
