Life changes can leave a person feeling lost, stuck or hopeless. Allan Mathieson recognises that starting therapy can feel daunting and that people may wonder what sessions will be like or whether therapy will “fix” them. With 4 years of experience he works collaboratively with clients to identify goals, build insight and develop practical tools to help manage anxiety, depression and other difficulties.
Allan treats each client with equal care and follows a client-led approach so that individuals remain in control of themes and goals. He draws on a person-centred way of working and integrates techniques and theories from other approaches when they suit the needs of the session. He places high importance on the therapeutic relationship, bringing a genuine, relaxed and non-judgemental presence to create a supportive environment.
He is a qualified psychotherapist and a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). As an integrative counsellor he has particular experience supporting people with anxiety and neurodiversity, and he has worked with a wide range of clients including those addressing men’s issues. Allan spends time between sessions researching and reflecting on how to support clients' progress; he does not require homework but can offer tasks or readings when helpful to promote emotional wellbeing between meetings.
Based in the United Kingdom, Allan is a male, non-religious and liberal therapist who works with clients facing stress, relationship and family concerns, self-esteem problems and coping with life changes. His approach aims to help clients make sense of their experiences and move towards a more positive future.
