Dr. Joseph Kenneally

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Greetings, my name is Tom Kenneally. I am a Doctor of Psychology and a licensed psychologist. I have 20 plus years of experience as a therapist. I have training and degrees in counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy and general psychology. Additionally I have experience in EMDR and ‘post modern’ therapies such as narrative and solution focused. I graduated from a Catholic University in San Antonio named ‘Our Lady of the Lake’ which has the distinction of being a leader in training culturally sensitive psychologists. My Doctoral internship was at The Mental Health wing of Hazelden, the worlds oldest treatment facility for addictions. I have done my own extensive personal therapy and bring that personal experience to supporting my clients. I’m the proud father of a wonderful daughter and grandfather of two great grandkids.
The best short description of my style of supporting my clients is as a ‘Jungian oriented’ psychologist. This simply means that the process of therapy is a deeply unique and individual journey of change and healing. The client is discovering what doesn’t work for them and exploring what works better. The support of good therapeutic help accelerates what the individual client is already doing to move toward a more satisfying and enjoyable life.
This sounds positive and nice but the process is often very scary and painful. When a person is stuck in their healing process it manifests as mental health symptoms like depression and anxiety. Good support reduces that pain and symptoms and gets a person to a better place.
Life and the therapeutic (healing/growth) process is an individual journey in many ways but benefits immensely from our relationships with others, intimate and otherwise. As a result many people seeking therapeutic support identify relationships as the area where they most want improvements. This is an area of expertise for the style of therapy I employ.

About

Dr. Joseph Kenneally is a Doctor of Psychology and a licensed psychologist in Texas with more than 20 years of clinical practice. He has training and degrees in counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, and general psychology, and brings that educational background to his therapeutic work.

His experience includes clinical training in EMDR and post-modern therapies, including narrative and solution-focused approaches. He completed his graduate studies at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, a Catholic university noted for its leadership in training culturally sensitive psychologists, and he fulfilled his doctoral internship in the Mental Health wing at Hazelden, the world’s oldest treatment facility for addictions.

Dr. Kenneally has undertaken extensive personal therapy and draws on that experience in supporting those he sees. He is a father and a grandfather of two great-grandchildren, and he brings both professional and personal perspectives to his work.

He describes his approach as Jungian-oriented – viewing therapy as a deeply individual journey of change and healing. In his view, clients explore what no longer serves them and experiment with patterns that work better, with skilled therapeutic support helping to accelerate that process of movement toward a more satisfying life.

Although the therapeutic journey can be hopeful, he acknowledges it is often frightening and painful. When progress stalls, it commonly shows up as symptoms such as depression or anxiety, and effective support aims to reduce that suffering and help people reach a better place. Because relationships play a central role in many lives, improving interpersonal connections is a common focus for people who seek therapy, and this is an area well aligned with Dr. Kenneally’s therapeutic orientation.

He is licensed to practice psychology in Texas (license number 34349) and offers clinical care shaped by two decades of experience and a background in both traditional and contemporary therapeutic methods.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether talking with a therapist online can really help. For a range of common concerns – such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or managing life changes – online therapy has been found to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions for most people.

One clear benefit is convenience and flexibility. Individuals can choose the mode of communication that fits their needs – video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging – making it easier to incorporate therapy into a busy schedule or to connect from different locations.

Another advantage is continuity and choice: therapy through online channels is provided by licensed professionals, and clients can change therapists if they decide a different fit would be better. For many, the combination of proven effectiveness and flexible access makes online therapy a practical and worthwhile option.
