Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Louisiana. I have worked with an array of populations, individuals, groups, settings, and athletic teams. I interned at both University Medical Center in New Orleans and the Thomas E. Chambers Counseling and Training Center. I graduated from University of Holy Cross with a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Being a counselor has given me the incredible opportunity to have conversations with so many unique people, essentially, counseling is just another conversation.
I specialize in working with athletes, coaches, and individuals who experience anxiety, depression, have performance issues, men’s issues, and work-related stress.
Before we really jump right into things, I first want to state that it takes an incredible amount of courage for a person to ask for help; so, I want to commend you for taking this step for yourself. If this is your first time utilizing therapy, especially on a platform like this, please note that I am here for you. Basically, during our session(s), I will reflect back information which you provide to me through in a summarizing form, I ask questions to clarify things, and I will attempt to provide avenues for which solutions may become visible. Also, this is your time, if anything is confusing please let me know.
Whenever you’re ready, and if you think we would be a good fit, let’s jump in.

Stephen Maffei is a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in Louisiana. He earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Holy Cross and completed internships at University Medical Center in New Orleans and the Thomas E. Chambers Counseling and Training Center. He holds the state counseling credential LA LPC 7599, which denotes his licensure to provide professional counseling in Louisiana.
Across seven years of practice, he has worked with a broad range of populations, individuals, groups, settings, and athletic teams. He focuses on serving athletes and coaches as well as people who experience anxiety, depression, performance-related concerns, men’s issues, and work-related stress.
He frames counseling as a conversation – a space to listen, reflect, and explore possible paths forward. In sessions he reflects back information clients provide in summarized form, asks questions to clarify what matters most, and aims to identify avenues where solutions can become visible.
Stephen acknowledges that reaching out for help takes courage and commends anyone who makes that choice. He encourages clients to use session time fully and to speak up if anything is unclear. When someone feels he might be a strong match, he invites them to begin the work together.
Many people ask whether counseling delivered remotely can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the clearest advantages is flexibility. Individuals can connect with therapists using the method that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That range of options often makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.
Licensed professionals provide care through these formats, and clients have the option to change therapists at any time if they prefer a different fit. This combination of effectiveness and convenience makes online therapy a practical choice for many people seeking support.
