Starlett Armstrong

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hello!

Welcome to Better Help. My name is Starlett Armstrong and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in the state of Tennessee. I have several years’ experience in the behavioral health arena, and I am certain that my knowledge, skills, and abilities will make me an excellent clinician with the Better Help Team. I am a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, in Michigan where I began my career.

As a past protective service specialist for the State of Tennessee as well as Michigan, I acquired many skills during my experience in child and family services. Using forensic interviewing, solution-focused planning, crisis intervention, evidence gathering techniques, and necessary court actions I have a thorough understanding and knowledge of youth and families as well as the legal operations related to minors. I have conducted several forensic interviews in an effort to determine whether abuse or neglect had occurred. Working with abused and neglected children allowed me the opportunity to utilize solution-focused techniques along with a trauma-informed approach while conducting crisis interventions with children and families to preserve the family unit.

Additionally, I have experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults in crisis. As a past crisis counselor for Youth Villages, I was afforded the opportunity to assess children and adolescents in times of crisis. I diagnosed severe and persistent mental illnesses through clinical assessments, risk assessments, and client evaluations. And when deemed necessary, I facilitated in-patient psychiatric treatment for the safety of the children and families. As a previous Social Work Consultant for the University of Tennessee, I worked with the foster care and juvenile justice workers to assure that children entering the State’s custody received the proper services and level of care.

For the past 10 years, I have been the Director of Clinical Services for a 73-bed residential facility; however, approximately one year ago, inherited a 30-bed psychiatric hospital that treats children, adolescents, and adult patients. Because I treat patients with trauma histories; therefore, I became a certified clinical trauma professional. Additionally, I am trained in EMDR, TBRI, TF-CBT, DBT, and CBT. I am confident that my knowledge, skills, and abilities make me a superior candidate for your treatment needs. Your consideration of me as your therapist is greatly appreciated.

About

Starlett Armstrong is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in Tennessee with 15 years of experience in behavioral health. She began her career after graduating from Eastern Michigan University and brings a long history of clinical leadership and frontline practice to her work.

Her early roles included serving as a protective service specialist in both Tennessee and Michigan, where she developed skills in forensic interviewing, solution-focused planning, crisis intervention, evidence gathering, and court-related actions. Those responsibilities gave her a deep understanding of youth and family dynamics as well as the legal processes that affect minors. She has conducted forensic interviews to assess allegations of abuse or neglect and applied trauma-informed, solution-focused techniques during crisis interventions to help preserve family stability.

Armstrong has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in crisis. As a former crisis counselor with Youth Villages, she completed clinical and risk assessments and client evaluations to diagnose severe and persistent mental illnesses, and when necessary facilitated in-patient psychiatric care to ensure safety. In a consulting role with the University of Tennessee, she collaborated with foster care and juvenile justice staff to help ensure children entering state custody received appropriate services and levels of care.

For a decade she served as Director of Clinical Services for a 73-bed residential facility, and about one year ago she took on leadership of a 30-bed psychiatric hospital treating children, adolescents, and adults. Because she frequently works with people who have trauma histories, she became a certified clinical trauma professional. Her clinical training includes EMDR, Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) model. She holds a Tennessee clinical social work license under TN LCSW 7161 and applies her knowledge and experience to support a wide range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, trauma and abuse, anger management, self-esteem, bipolar disorder, addictions, LGBTQ issues, relationship and family conflicts, grief, parenting and career challenges, depression, coping with life changes, coaching, compassion fatigue, and ADHD.

Armstrong offers a blend of trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches tailored to each person’s needs, and she welcomes the opportunity to be considered as a therapeutic resource.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or navigating life transitions, online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person care for many individuals. A major benefit is flexibility – people can connect with a therapist in the format that suits them best, including video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That flexibility often makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule. Licensed professionals conduct online sessions, and clients have the option to change therapists if they want a different fit. For many, remote therapy offers a practical, accessible way to address everyday mental health needs and relationship challenges while using evidence-based approaches provided by trained therapists.
