Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I am a cradle Catholic who was ordained to the Permanent Deaconate in the Kalamazoo Diocese on April 13th, 2024 with my wife of 32 years. It has been my experience that most of our emotional problems occur from a lack of love. While there are certainly biological/psychological issues affecting behavior, the Sacraments can go a long way to healing our emotional wounds. Life is all about finding that balance between what we can control and what we can’t. I would be happy to listen to you and help you find that balance through clearer thinking and by setting/communicating proper boundaries.
Please note: You do not have to be a “practicing” Catholic in order to receive counseling services from me. I work with people from all faith traditions and people who have little or no faith. I only apply Catholic/Christian faith-based counseling to those who request it.

Brian Willshire is a Michigan-based therapist who brings two decades of clinical experience and a faith-informed perspective to his work. A cradle Catholic, he and his wife of 32 years were ordained together to the Permanent Diaconate in the Kalamazoo Diocese on April 13, 2024, and that spiritual vocation influences how he understands healing and care.
He believes many emotional struggles grow from a shortage of love, while also recognizing the role of biological and psychological factors in human behavior. For those who request it, he integrates Catholic and Christian sacramental practice into counseling as a complementary resource for mending emotional wounds.
He aims to help people find a healthier balance between what they can control and what they cannot, offering attentive listening, practical guidance for clearer thinking, and support in setting and communicating appropriate boundaries. He works with people across faith traditions and with those who have little or no faith, applying faith-based counseling only when it is requested.
He is licensed to practice professional counseling in Michigan; his state registration number is 6401004052. Brian offers an approachable, steady presence for individuals and families seeking to address stress, anxiety, relationship and family conflicts, depression, grief, parenting challenges, anger management, self-esteem, and coping with life changes.
Many people wonder whether remote counseling can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and navigating life transitions, research and practice have shown that online therapy can be as effective as in-person care for most individuals.
One major benefit is convenience – you can meet with a therapist in whatever format fits your life, whether that is a video call, a phone session, live chat, or messaging within an app. This flexibility makes it easier to maintain consistency and fit treatment into a busy schedule.
All therapists involved are licensed professionals, and if you feel a different fit would be better, you are free to switch to another therapist at any time. Online therapy offers practical access and adaptable communication options while addressing many common mental health and relationship concerns.
