Casey Unger

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

I am Casey , Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been in the mental health field since 1994 and licensed since 2002.

My experience ranges from working with the chronically mentally ill in public mental health, private practice, inpatient psychiatric, diagnostics/assessment, crisis intervention, anger management, and employee assistance.

My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the effectiveness it has in pointing out negative thought patterns. I also love to use Solution-Focused Therapy as well.

Through CBT I can help you see unconscious schemas that are leading you to do what you do, where they came from, how they developed, and ultimately how to become your own therapist reframing and moving forward on your own.

I love working with all individuals but feel that I have a specific skill in understanding people who feel thrown away, bullied, and/or marginalized in society. Historically, I have always done very well with people that no one else seems to be able to help or reach.

In your first session you can expect to have me ask questions of you so I can understand who you are, where you come from, what has shaped your beliefs and perceptions, and to ultimately plot a course for something better.

Most people are nervous and do not know what to expect so what I will say is we will just talk. While I do happen to be licensed, I am human, equal, and not above anyone.

I will make telephonic/televideo therapy every bit as personal as face to face.

I am also very analytical and able to see/put together patterns, diagnoses, and have an excellent ability to “turn on the windshield wipers in the rain” for my clients.

As a result of surviving my own trauma as well as being a survivor of a disaster, I realize that one event in anyone’s lives can reverse the side of the desk they are sitting on.

There is always that one event(s) that can put the counselor into the position of the client as well and shows our vulnerability as humans.

I make it a point to come across as approachable and not superior and I am very responsive to my clients. .

PLEASE NOTE: I have other roles that I work around so the times on my schedule seem limited. However, if there is another time you need to be seen please message me and we will work something out.

Second, If you are covered under CVS/Aetna EAP then please choose another therapist as I am unable to accept these clients due to a conflict of interest.

And finally, due to time constraints, I am only doing individual counseling and not couple’s counseling.

About

Casey Unger is a Texas-licensed professional counselor with three decades of experience in the mental health field. She entered the field in 1994 and has held a professional counseling license since 2002, bringing long-term clinical perspective to her work.

Her background includes work with the chronically mentally ill in public mental health, private practice, inpatient psychiatric settings, diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention, anger management programs, and employee assistance services. Those varied settings inform a practical, results-oriented approach to treatment.

Casey primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify and reframe negative thought patterns and uncover underlying schemas that influence behavior. She also incorporates Solution-Focused Therapy to set clear goals and build actionable steps forward. Through these methods she helps people learn to reframe thoughts and move ahead with greater self-direction.

She works with a wide range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, anger management, self-esteem difficulties, depression, compassion fatigue, addictions, relationship and family conflicts, trauma and abuse, grief, intimacy-related challenges, parenting issues, career difficulties, bipolar disorder, coping with life changes, and ADHD.

Casey is known for being approachable and down-to-earth, and she emphasizes being equal and responsive to the people she sees. She aims to make phone and video sessions feel as personal as face-to-face meetings. Analytical by nature, she looks for patterns in a client’s story and has a strong ability to help clients gain clarity and momentum – an approach she sometimes describes as turning on the windshield wipers in the rain.

Having survived personal trauma and a disaster, Casey brings lived experience of vulnerability to her practice and recognizes how a single event can change a person’s perspective. She typically begins by asking questions to understand who a client is, where they come from, and what has shaped their beliefs, then works collaboratively to plot a better course.

Please note that her schedule can appear limited because she balances other professional roles; clients who need different times are encouraged to message and request alternatives. She is unable to accept clients covered under CVS/Aetna EAP due to a conflict of interest. Also, because of time constraints, she offers individual counseling only and does not provide couples therapy.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step for Your Mental Health?

For many common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions – online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person care. Research and clinical experience indicate that for these issues, remote sessions often produce comparable outcomes.

One major benefit is flexibility. Clients can choose the mode of connection that fits their needs and comfort level – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.

Licensed professionals provide the care, and if a client feels a different fit would help, it is possible to switch therapists. Online therapy offers an accessible way to receive consistent, professional support while accommodating individual schedules and preferences.
