Michael Northsea

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hello, my name is Michael. I have been a License Mental Health Counselor in Florida since 2009 and have been in the mental health field since 2006. I have worked with a wide range of clientele from individuals with several and chronic mental illness to suicidal adolescents to inmates facing life sentences. I wanted to tell you a little story about myself.
In 2015, I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer and treated it with chemotherapy. In 2017, I was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia which I learned was a side effect of this initial chemotherapy. I spent a month in the hospital, only growing worse and nearly meeting my demise. I knew I needed a new approach. I began my journey into naturalistic healing with food, herbs, and life-style changes. I was able to heal myself. This experience changed my life and way I counsel. I now believe that the use of food, herbs, and lifestyle changes help your mood, mind, everything!
So, I have been thinking a lot about my counseling style. To be honest, I really don’t have one in particular. I use a collective approach. I use a little CBT, DBT, Motivational Interview, Person First, and even Emotion Code. However, I don’t believe just talk therapy makes someone ‘happy’. It is a holistic approach. I encourage clients to mediate, exercise, eat whole food.

About

Michael Northsea is a Florida-based mental health counselor who has worked in the field since 2006 and has held state licensure since 2009. He brings 18 years of clinical experience supporting a wide range of people, from individuals with multiple and chronic mental illnesses to suicidal adolescents and inmates serving life sentences.

In 2015 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and treated with chemotherapy. In 2017 he developed acute promyelocytic leukemia, which he learned was a side effect of that earlier chemotherapy. After a month in the hospital during which his condition continued to worsen and he nearly lost his life, he pursued a different approach to recovery.

He turned to naturalistic healing methods involving food, herbs, and lifestyle changes and reports that this approach allowed him to heal himself. That personal transformation reshaped his perspective and the way he practices therapy; he now emphasizes how nutrition, herbal supports, and lifestyle adjustments can influence mood and overall mental wellness.

Northsea describes his clinical approach as integrative rather than tied to a single model. He draws on elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, person-first approaches, and Emotion Code. He does not view talk therapy as the sole path to feeling better and encourages clients to mediate, exercise, and eat whole food. He is a Florida-licensed mental health counselor, a credential that reflects state licensure (MH10241).

Is Online Therapy the Right Fit for Your Needs?

Many people question whether online therapy can truly make a difference. For common concerns – such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or managing life transitions – online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.

A key benefit is flexibility. Clients can connect in the format that feels most comfortable – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which can make it easier to integrate therapy into daily life.

Therapy delivered online is provided by licensed professionals, and clients may switch therapists at any time if they would prefer a different fit. This combination of effectiveness and convenience makes online therapy a practical option for many people seeking support.
