Welcome to Betterhelp! My name is Susan Wolanyk and I am an LPCC-S in OH and NY with 11 years experience working with moderate to severe mental illnesses in a community setting amongst a diverse population of Hispanics, East Europeans, Blacks and new immigrants from around the world. Susan Wolanyk is a licensed mental health clinician practicing in Ohio with nine years of experience working in community settings. She holds licensure in New York as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and in Ohio as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with supervisory credentials. Over the course of her career she has treated moderate to severe mental illnesses among a diverse mix of clients, including Hispanic, East European and Black communities, as well as new immigrants from around the world.
As a third-generation immigrant, Susan brings personal insight into the challenges that can affect multiple generations of families. Many of the people she has worked with struggled with shame and fear, and that exposure deepened her compassion and patience for human vulnerability. Her graduate training emphasized clinical humility, and she has focused clinically on grief and loss, depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, working with both adults and teenagers.
Coming to therapy as a second career after years in the corporate world while raising five children, Susan uses an eclectic, person-centered approach that builds on what motivates each individual and their unique strengths. She works alongside clients with realistic hope when they feel change is out of reach, aiming to identify solutions that produce lasting results and help people claim their place in the world. Her areas of specialty include stress, anxiety, depression, coping with life changes, addictions, family conflicts, grief, anger management, self-esteem and career difficulties, along with support for bipolar disorder and compassion fatigue.
For many common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or major life transitions, online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person care. Research and clinical experience support its usefulness for a wide range of everyday mental health needs.
One major benefit is convenience – people can connect in the format that works best for them, whether that is a video call, a phone session, live chat or messaging within an app. That flexibility makes it easier to fit regular therapy into busy schedules and to maintain continuity of care during life changes.
All sessions are conducted by licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they are seeking a different therapeutic fit. For many people, the combination of evidence-based effectiveness and practical accessibility makes online therapy a viable option to consider.
