Susan Wolanyk

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Welcome to Betterhelp! My name is Susan Wolanyk and I am an LPCC-S in OH and NY with 11 years experience working with moderate to severe mental illnesses in a community setting amongst a diverse population of Hispanics, East Europeans, Blacks and new immigrants from around the world. So many clients were filled with shame and fear which birthed in me a compassion and patience for our human vulnerability. I am a third generation immigrant and familiar with immigrant challenges that occur for each generation. My masters program also heavily stressed clinical humility in dealing with hurting people. My work focused on grief and loss, depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse with adults and teens. This is a second career for me after working in corporate settings while raising five children. I use an eclectic, person-centered approach which involves working with what motivates you and utilizes your unique, individual strengths. I will come alongside and have hope for you when you can’t believe what you want is possible. My goal, as a therapist, is to find solutions that bring lasting change and set you up to take your unique place in this world; a world that needs you and your gifts. My specialties are transitions, life adjustments, parenting issues, anger management, grief and loss. immigrant issues. Working together, we will build a strong therapeutic alliance based on mutual regard and respect. Congratulations on taking action to build your best life!

About

Susan Wolanyk is an Ohio-based licensed counselor with nine years of clinical experience working in community settings with moderate to severe mental illnesses. Her practice has included work with diverse populations such as Hispanic, East European, Black, and newly arrived immigrant communities from around the world.

She developed a deep compassion and patience through seeing how shame and fear affect people, and she draws on her perspective as a third-generation immigrant to understand the challenges that can arise across generations. Her master’s training emphasized clinical humility when working with people who are hurting.

Susan’s clinical focus includes grief and loss, depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse with both adults and teens. She also supports clients dealing with stress, coping with life changes, addictions, family conflicts, anger management, self-esteem concerns, career difficulties, bipolar disorder, and compassion fatigue.

After a first career in corporate settings while raising five children, she moved into counseling. She practices using an eclectic, person-centered approach that builds on what motivates each person and leverages individual strengths. She aims to stand alongside clients, offering hope when it feels hard to imagine change, and to help find solutions that create lasting progress so each person can take their unique place in the world.

She holds licenses to practice mental health counseling in New York and carries clinical supervisory credentials as a licensed counselor in Ohio.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can make a meaningful difference. For a range of common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and navigating life transitions – online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.

One major benefit is the flexibility it offers. Individuals can connect in the way that works best for them, choosing video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That adaptability often makes it easier to fit regular care into a busy life.

Licensed professionals provide these services, and clients are free to switch therapists anytime if they are seeking a better fit. For many people facing everyday mental health challenges, online therapy can be a practical and effective option.
