Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Welcome to my profile. If you have worked with other counselors before, I think you will find my approach refreshing. Some might say my style is “little outside the box”. But you’ll have to judge that for yourself…. Whether you’re a newcomer to counseling or a ‘therapy junkie’, please contact me to discuss your personal situation. Specialties: Marriage / Family Counseling, Anger Management, Addictions, Motivation & Self Esteem, and Kids-Acting-Up. My method is based on Paradox Psychology which is a counter-intuitive approach. This is an interesting method since it bypasses the ‘logical mind’ and but…but…but thinking. I often use gentle humor to unravel repetitive patterns that keep people stuck in ongoing dilemmas. I’m a therapist of few words, but what I say is designed to keep people focused and on task.
As a Marriage Counselor I help couples & families sort out their mess. In the process, I give each person a ‘fair shake.’ Also, I’m pretty good with husbands / boyfriends who think “therapy ain’t for me!”
In family sessions, kids like my relaxed no-pressure style. I do well with young children / teens who exhibit: anger, backtalk, lie, steal. enuresis, encopresis; and other fun stuff. My humor and laid back approach get kids & family involved and participating.
I have a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Temple University and an MSW from Rutgers University. I am licensed as an LCSW and have over 25 years of experience. I have presented at many conferences on ‘Working With The Hard-To-Treat Client’, and am in the process of completing a book on this topic.

Dr. Eliot Kaplan offers a psychotherapy practice that blends a relaxed demeanor with an unconventional clinical method. His work often uses Paradox Psychology – a counter-intuitive approach designed to bypass the purely logical mind and the repetitive “but…but…but” thinking that can keep people stuck. Gentle humor is a common tool in his sessions, used to unravel repetitive patterns and re-engage clients in forward movement.
With a concise communication style, Dr. Kaplan focuses on keeping people on task and progressing rather than relying on lengthy interpretation. He sees individuals at all stages of experience with therapy, from newcomers to those who have worked with multiple counselors, and welcomes inquiries to discuss a person’s situation.
As a marriage and family counselor, Dr. Kaplan helps couples and families sort through difficulties while striving to give each person a fair shake. He is particularly skilled at engaging men who may feel that “therapy ain’t for me!” and at creating a relaxed, no-pressure atmosphere that encourages participation.
Dr. Kaplan also works with children and adolescents who present with behavioral concerns such as anger, backtalk, lying, stealing, enuresis, and encopresis. His laid-back style and use of humor help bring kids and families into the therapeutic process so they can work together on change.
He holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Temple University and a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University. He is licensed as a clinical social worker in New York and brings more than 25 years of clinical experience to his practice. Dr. Kaplan has presented at numerous conferences on working with hard-to-treat clients and is in the process of completing a book on that topic.
Many people wonder whether meeting with a therapist remotely can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adjusting to life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person work for most people.
One major benefit is convenience and flexibility – clients can choose the mode of connection that suits them best, whether video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That flexibility makes it easier to integrate therapy into a busy schedule.
All therapists providing online care are licensed professionals, and clients may switch therapists at any time if they want a different fit. For many individuals, online therapy offers an accessible, practical way to pursue meaningful progress with a qualified clinician.
