Susan Sparks has spent decades working and volunteering in her community, driven by a longstanding passion to care for others. Much of her early work focused on children across a range of settings, and those experiences shaped her interest in addressing mental health needs she observed in the community.
She earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois in 2011 and went on to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois in 2013, bringing a decade of clinical practice to her work as a therapist.
As a clinician, Susan works with children, young adults, individuals, and families using a life-centered approach that is tailored to each person’s unique needs. She employs therapeutic strategies to address behavioral concerns, anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, trauma, and anger management, among other issues.
Susan uses evidence-informed methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, behavioral therapy, applied behavioral analysis, mindfulness practice, and holistic therapies. She believes that everyone, regardless of age, has strengths they can draw on, and that many people can learn to manage the challenges they face - some with more guidance than others.
Her aim is to support individuals and families in overcoming obstacles and in realizing their potential to lead fulfilling, happy, and productive lives.
Many people wonder whether remote therapy truly helps. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and navigating life transitions, online therapy can be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person treatment.
One major benefit is flexibility. Individuals can connect with therapists in the format that best fits their needs and schedule - through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging - which makes it easier to incorporate care into a busy life.
Therapy delivered online is provided by licensed professionals, and if someone decides they would prefer a different clinician, it is possible to switch to find a better fit.
