Stephen Huebschwerlen provides treatment for a broad range of mental and behavioral health concerns, including depression, anxiety, stress management, grief and loss, parent-child conflict, and marital difficulties. He partners with people to help them build on personal values, spiritual beliefs, and existing relational skills to meet life challenges.
A North Dakota native, he has spent the past 42 years working with children, youth, and adults in a variety of professional roles and settings. His experience includes service with Juvenile Court, public K-12 schools, long-term and therapeutic foster care programs, Youthworks - a private full-spectrum youth and family services provider in Bismarck and Fargo - and mental health programs at St. Alexius Medical Center, including Archway and the Partial Hospitalization Program, where he provided child, adult, and family outpatient individual and group psychotherapy. He has consistently collaborated with a wide range of community helping agencies.
Stephen works openly and collaboratively with each client to determine the most appropriate treatment focus and methods. He uses an eclectic set of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused approaches, strengths-based strategies, and other methods. Much of his work has involved children and adolescents within a whole-systems, person-in-environment framework, and over the past 12 years his private practice has shifted to emphasize adult individual and relational issues.
He earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Denver in 1986 and has been licensed as an independent clinical social worker in North Dakota since 2003.
